This is ridiculous and completely unacceptable!

APPLE should be informed and replaces all defective monitors as soon as possible.

Also, APPLE should get rid of LG IPS monitors and improve quality control in China...

SAMSUNG monitors appear less problems, as far as I know.

You are right but they are aware of this since more than a year now and have not done a thing so I guess it does not cost them enough money yet.

If you bought a 15" just go get a screen replacement and you'll have a Samsung screen but if you bought a 13" you are screwed because they are all bad.

Your opinion about a "full" BTO 13'' MBA?
(I think its TN monitor is getting obsolete...and screen is very glossy!)

The MBA is a great computer except for his screen which is of course no way as nice as the retina but since all 13" retina are plagued with IR it is your only choice if you want to stick to this size (and it is my favorite size too).

My advice, if you need a computer right now and do not want / can't get a 15" retina then go with the air. The "Ultimate" model should have plenty of power for your everyday use except if you plan to do some SERIOUS video editing or gaming but if it was the case I would not recommend you a rmbp 13" either. The screen of course is a TN panel with pretty poor viewing angle but if you are not spoiled by the retina yet it should be ok. Finally you can still get a MBA right now and sell it in the future to get a rmbp if Apple ever fix the IR issue.

To cut it short the MBA is in my opinion the best you can have right now if you are looking for a 13" form factor. The compenents depends of how much money you are willing to spent but since the air is less expensive than the pro you can get the full option for a pretty decent price (especially if you have Apple on campus).

Thank you, Jeanloup!

I am taking your opinion very seriously.

PS: Do you think MBA HD5000 graphics are less superior than Iris 5100 (of 13'' rMBP) when you connect your MBA to external monitor for normal daily use and some amateur photo/video editing?

Well the Iris is better than the HD5000 but I don't think there is a life changing difference between the two. The MBA should be fine and if it's not you have 14 days to return it anyway.

I was in the same boat as you and went with the higher end 13 non BTO because I figured the faster CPU and storage outweighed the 16 gig ram for my use case (slight gaming and daily web surfing)
If your doing graphical editing or video editing you may want the 16 gig ram but if not I haven't even utilized all 8gb of mine with safari, iTunes and civ 5 running all at once

Indeed. For me it started only after 3 months. I hope you won't have the issue but so far every owner of the 13" retina I'v met experienced the problem at some point ...

My current one still doesn't have IR.. It's been over 6+ months at least right now

I think you have to read this thread:

Some people are having a blase style to IR problems...

The Pro is indeed faster than the air (Did I say the opposite anywhere ?) but the Air has plenty of power for his uses. Now is it foolish to buy the air over the pro ? I would say yes if IR was Indeed a fantaisy of "one or too people" but it´s not. It is a real issue and just because some people don't experience it right out of the box or don't want to see it does not mean it is rare nor real. As a previous owner of both a rmbp 15" and a rmbp 13" (all of them had IR and I tried to exchange the 15" 3 times) I have seen plenty of people saying "Mine is fine you are just unlucky" and then months later, those same people would come back and say "damn my screen is starting to experience IR, what can I do ?". Personnaly I do not care I'm just trying to save some people the hassle of wasting time with returning or exchanging their brand new computer and wasting an important amount of money. I really think if you are looking for a mac with the 13" form factor then because of IR the MBA is still the best choice at the moment. It is my opinion based on facts, take it or leave it, it is your problem in the end :)

(Still you are right that the Iris is a better graphic card.)
