I have a couple sticks of 1333 MHz RAM lying around that are bigger than the 2 x 1 GB RAM modules in my stock iMac 2009. the imac is built for 1066 MHz, but was thinking that the faster DDR3 chip (the 1333 MHz from newer imacs) would just run at the slower speed? Its basically a free way for me to make this computer have 4GB RAM vs 2GB, but wanted to see if this was a bad idea.

The faster RAM is a pull from a newer working iMac, and all that I can see different is the CAS rating is slightly higher.

stick them in and let us know. It should work but I have not done that test. I do have 4 8gb 1333ghz sticks in my mac pro and they are down clocked to 1066

I used to have it and notice a slight increase in performance, then during usage it kernal panic'd on me. So I decided to keep it within spec at 1066
