Can someone explain why anyone would want an OLED display on a computer?

Computer displays tend to be on for HOURS at a time, often displaying the same data in the same place on the screen for those hours. Like in my case I always have my messenger on the upper left and a terminal window on my linux server on the bottom left. These things would get burned into an OLED display.

Not to mention the menu bar with the Apple logo in the corner. That will get burned in very quick and you'll see it any time you full screen anything.

It just totally seems like the wrong technology for the job.
This is why I've never been a fan of OLED on computing devices. Sure, they look a bit nicer, but I'd rather have the small tradeoff of a little blooming to know that the display will last a very long time.

hmmm OLED seems not yet color accurate as mini-LED in current MBPs
Power saving vs professional accuracy for Macbook Air, power saving wins big time.

There are lots of laptops with OLED screens on the market, for a few years already. I have one myself. They are doing fine. Get a laptop and see for yourself instead of imagining things and posting them as facts on a forum.

Honestly the MicroLEDs are just fine IMO. The current MBP looks amazing.

Sure OLEDs are great for battery but as someone who has an OLED TV, believe me, larger OLEDs still have lots of kinks to be worked out.

EDIT: I got my terminology mixed up. The current lineup uses Mini-LED. Thanks to those that corrected me.
I thought that OLEDs used more power though?

Choosing when to drop thousands on an Apple device is always tough. There's always some big new feature around the corner. Tougher when you need a device for work, though at least you can deduct most of it from your taxes.

Still happy with my 2021 MacBook Pro will be holding out for the next design refresh. Maybe it will be with this rumour.

I don't care about OLED in the MBP, just put Mini-LED on the Studio Display to justify the damn price, also remove the Notch!

Why would I want a display tech on a laptop that has huge burn-in issues and a shorter lifespan than other displays like MicroLED or LCD? Not something I want at all!! NO THANK YOU Apple!!

I just bought a TV with LCD and local dimming rather than an OLED because I want to play video games on it and don't want things burning in.

OLED just isn't a good tech for anything but phones, maybe tablets and TVs used to watch video, rather than video games and computing.

Mini LED on current Macbook Pro line is rated max of 1600 nit for HDR.
OLED on PC notebook is not able to touch it.

Would you mind elaborating? I'm thinking about upgrading my 60" LG LED 4K to a 65 LG OLED 4K within a year, and it seems the vast majority of reviews of those (and similar quality brand name OLED TVs) are glowing. I thought OLED technology was pretty mature at this point.

And, back more to the size ranges applicable to this thread, my Tab S8 Ultra has an OLED display in this size range (14.6 inches) and I haven't noticed any issues.

OLED in TVs is very different from OLED in phones/tablets/laptops.

Apple sure know how to play competitive games, they watch what Dell, Asus, HP, Samsung and LE do now with current PC OLED laptops on the market and then they copy them, Apple has lost some of first to market innovation since Steve Jobs days. Just give the consumers the display options now and stop with sexy marketing BS. The current Macbooks are good enough for me.
