First off, I have a convenience store owner in my family and he does not lack in reading comprehension skills. Nor is he stupid or simple. In fact, he is far more successful than those of us who have multiple degrees and can determine the meaning of Latin phrases.

You obviously equate success with money. Um, no, working a convenience store is nothing more than a way to make a living. Nothing to be ashamed of but not a source of pride either. I know garbage collectors who have done well with their business. Not anything I admire, it is just a way for them to make a living. And it is a necessary service so no shame in it, but not some great accomplishment in life. Neither is working a convenience store.
