15.7.5 update

I updated earlier today to 15.7.6 .... all security fixes I believe.

Man, my 2019 Mac Pro hiccuped during this update...machine shut down and after 30 mins I powered back on. It took 3-4 restarts before I could finally login (noted a reference to firmware in the crash log). All seems OK now, but man, my blood pressure spiked.

I have made it to the other side

Somehow, an earlier attempt to update (many months ago) got stuck before it could be assembled and blocked me from downloading anything else, so I was stuck on 15.2 for a while. I had to download 15.7.5 via the terminal, which cleared the old update... then I had to re-download 15.7.5 again via the App Store which finally allowed me to run the installer.

I forgot about this and checked the Apple security updates website with the release notes. Interestingly (unless I missed it) in 15.7.5 it doesn’t mention CVE-2026-20643 https://support.apple.com/en-us/126795, but the Safari update for Sonoma/Sequoia does https://support.apple.com/en-us/126800, which appears to match what was listed in the iOS/macOS 26 “background security improvement

Did this also update it in /System/Library ? My System/Library/…/info.plist shows 20621.3.11.11.3 for “CFBundleVersion” (assuming that’s the right field to check). Is there a separate location for a Safari-bundled WebKit, or does Safari just reference the System/Library one?

Unfortunately, it’s another Apple mess.

The command defaults read /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info CFBundleVersion returns 20621.3.11.11.3, that is actually WebKit-7621.3.11.11.3, but the conversion from 20621 to 7621 is not always accurate.

Time Machine is your friend. Throw in a spinning drive in the system (just make sure it's double the size of your OS disk. You can always restore full system from TM backup if anything goes wrong.

I hadn’t noticed this until 15.7.5, but the Options icons now show Macintosh HD with the liquid glass design.

Time Machine is your friend. Throw in a spinning drive in the system (just make sure it's double the size of your OS disk. You can always restore full system from TM backup if anything goes wrong.

Yea, thanks and sage advice. I have CCC clone of my startup disk and an external TM backup.

Updates for CoreTypes.pkg & MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg have been released, install them before connecting iOS devices.
