IGZO would make it last like Air. I left mine (2.6) for the night and after 8 hours of downloading Dropbox and stuff in the background, it was 44% with display set to 0 brightness.

Hope it will come as refresh in 2014.

That's quite a testament to how power-hungry these displays are. I don't tend to work on battery power too often, but I can see how IGZO and Broadwell could truly revolutionize battery life on these machines next year--especially since Broadwell is expected to be much more efficient at heavy loads.

Haswell's improvements in this area are restricted to light-duty tasks only.

My Ivy Bridge rMBP gets more than 4 hours of web surfing.

Is the dGPU turned on? I noticed that on Mavericks, sometimes is the dGPU on for no reason. Maybe it happens after I use an app that requires the dGPU although I'm not sure.

Use the Activity monitor to see if any apps are using a lot of energy.

This is exactly why I'm ditching the dGPU rMBP when I update from this Ivy Bridge to a Haswell rMBP.

The dGPU is a battery killer. Lots of apps turn it on - Dreamweaver, Photoshop, even Chrome and Safari. When the dGPU is used for basic tasks, the battery drains much more quickly. I can get 3 hours of use when the dGPU is being used. 5 hours when it's using the integrated GPU.

I feel a lot better about 15' crystalwell base now. I get well over 8 hours, web & acrobat docs. I heard somewhere its good to make sure you cycle your battery once a week. Run it all the way down then charge it to 100%. Also even though I like Chrome I try to use Safari now because of the battery savings.

I'm a heavy Google Chrome user and noticed it does take a toll on the battery life of my rMBP w/750m. I'm going to start using Safari to see if that makes a difference.

Or you could just instal gfxCardStatus and disable the 750M when you're on battery power.

Usefullest. App. Ever.

I like the way you think!

I'm coming from an Early '08 MBP. This new rMBP is a beast, unfortunately I'm having some of the yellow corner issues with my display.

A lot, and I mean a lot of applications in Mac OS X seem to want to use the dGPU for some reason. For example, I don't see why Netbeans IDE insists on using the dGPU per default. I mean, if I was doing some OpenGL it could request it, but per default?

Other applications:
  • VMWare Fusion
  • Adobe Applications

Someone already mentioned PowerPoint, but as I don't use it I won't include it in my list. I almost always use GfxCardStatus to force the iGPU. The new iGPU in the latest Macbook Pro is more than powerful enough to do pretty much anything except gaming and heavy gpu calculations.

I had 90% of battery left after two hours of light web browsing. I have yet to drain the battery of my rmbp completely. I have the 15" rmbp with the 750m.
