I hope Apple has enough capacity to crank out millions of these laptops. This is THE laptop to buy, and will make for some very profitable quarters ahead. My only issue - get RID of the 256 configuration, it only exists allow them to quote a lower ‘starting at’ price. Anyone that knows anything about laptops would never get that model, insufficient memory AND slower.
I was pleasantly surprised myself. Right now I use a 14" MBP issued to me by work, but if I had to buy my own laptop the 15" Air would be the way to go. Pricing is not ridiculous (when you consider the Apple tax) and it's a solidly capable machine.

Six speakers, and yet I'd never use them. Wonder how much they add to the price.
Also gotta see how they sound since the new MBA design is speak grills free

In effect i think the MBA M1 sounds better than the M2, in spite of having only 2 speakers

And soundstage is even wider ofc , since they come from each side of the device, and not from the bottom

Eh idk, its still 200$ more than the 13

Also I don't think 99 would have been possible , but maybe 80 ? You'd expect a better battery life from a bigger device, jist like 14 vs 16
2019 MBP 16" had a 99Whr battery and a larger Intel logic board.

2023 MBA 15" has a iPhone-sized logicboard for more space for a battery.

$99 seems correct for Apple.

Hardly any difference in cost. They first showed up on May 2021 M1 24" iMac, then were in the 2021 Oct 14"/16" Pro/Max MBP's. They render a better sounding Dolby spatial sound from what they are in then stereo, or 4 speaker examples. They just aren't terribly loud for comparisons. But without question I would opt for them being built in for their sound quality. They are also in the Studio Display also.

MacBook Pro is 50% thicker. It has thicker batteries in the palm rest. There is a battery under the trackpad.

MacBook Air doesn't have a battery under the trackpad.

That crappy battery replacement experience is exactly why we need regulations to force companies to make it easier to swap batteries. There's NO VALID REASON they had to make the battery so hard to replace. Layering components in a different order and it'd be cake. They just don't want end users replacing them, pure and simple.
Batteries today are nothing like they were 10+ years ago, back when you could and needed to replace MacBook batteries regularly. Sure, any battery will degrade over time, but I would venture to guess that most people get 4-6 years of good use out of their MacBooks, before they consider the battery to be a problem. And that is assuming people keep their MacBook that long before upgrading due to advancements in processors, screens, storage, keyboards, etc. Sure, you could argue that all these components should be user replaceable, but there just isn’t enough of a population that is willing and able to do computer part repairs/replacements.

I think it's a really smart play to drive more upsells of very profitable storage options for those who obsess about performance. I like that they are rolling this strategy out across different segments of the MacBook product lineup. This leads to more investment in product R&D and more innovative products for consumers to enjoy.

Battery life is literally a pissing contest.

As someone who has done sound design, video editing, song writing, software development, data analytics and more with a laptop on planes, trains and automobiles throughout east Asia for a good chunk of my life, I'd like to know who needs more than eight (continuous) hours of battery life.

No! We don't need more regulations. None.

Effectively nothing, they're thrown in for the $100 upcharge that the display would command regardless.

Yes I think this is the one thing I'd change about this computer, both sound quality, and aesthetics would be better if they'd included them (I guess the latter is down to personal taste, I've seen some people say it makes the keyboard deck look cleaner not to have them).

well as for the second point I agree that it makes it look cleaner and simplistic, though I also think those holes add some kind of sexy look (gosh, that sounds so wrong I'm sorry ), some character, instead of those weird large bands on each side

for the first point It's a hard agree, unfortunately it's likely to stay like this for many more years, it's the new air look and design sadly

Apple doesn't care about Steve Jobs. On the other hand they DO care about their stockholders and massive profits. So they will continue to charge 800% (or more) of cost for upgrades until pigs fly.
haha , love seeing such comments get downvoted but delusional people (or shareholders ?)

Regardless of how you mix it up it's a great value at $1199 EDU/MIL or $1299.

The cheapest last 15" Mac laptop was US$2399. The MBA 15" is also physically smaller and lighter too. With superior battery life, thermals & display as well.

I do not understand why people are whining about the price.

If you bump up the M2 chip of the MBA 13" to match the 15" it's a $100 diff for 2" more screen and better everything else.
