You know what I mean. If you want a big battery, it will come in a thicker and heavier laptop.
Well not necessarily, since as you can see from the internals, they could have fit a larger battery, but refrained from doing so, probably to keep it "super light"

But yeah if you want the best battery, gotta go for the big thick heavy monster indeed

This might be the definitive guide to the MBA 15"

It should be noted the speakers in the 14"/16" MBPs have audio coming from air intakes both sides of the bottom, the top perforated hole areas left and right of keyboard. It's like comparing a sealed speaker vs a ported speaker with how different the bass output is between a new 15" MBA and smaller 14" MBP in this Max Tech video. The 16" MBP uses even larger speakers and is more fuller sounding/immersive when it comes to spatial audio effects. I am sure someone can compare all three.

What I want the EU to do is either ban soldered SSDs and RAM to reduce e waste or demand that the manufacturer can't price memory/storage upgrades over 100% market rate instead of charging 800% going rate like Apple's current cost to go from 256gb to 1TB.
The EU should just make apple a utility and design all their products and set their prices😂

It already has a larger battery compared to the 13", but I don't see how they could have used an even larger battery without making it thicker and therefore heavier. People choose the Airs because they are thinner and lighter than the Pros.

My 16" Intel has amazing sound quality for a laptop. I remember being blown away by how good the thing sounded (though I use the internal speakers rarely). I'd like to see a comparison as well.

Battery life is literally a pissing contest.

As someone who has done sound design, video editing, song writing, software development, data analytics and more with a laptop on planes, trains and automobiles throughout east Asia for a good chunk of my life, I'd like to know who needs more than eight (continuous) hours of battery life.
Porn and Lord of the rings fans.

If I didn’t already have a 13” M1 MBA with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD that I enjoy, this is the one I would purchase:

Students in university, for one.

The thing is that I don’t always leave home with my laptop at 100%, as I don’t have the habit of charging it overnight the way I do my iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. 18 hour battery life on a full charge means 8-9 hours at 50%, which means a student can easily make it through a full day of lectures (eg: 9 to 5) without having to be constantly near a power outlet.

I have seen this one too many times when I was on a 4-month course at a local university. Some of the other adults who were there had these windows laptops with so short battery life that the first thing they did upon entering the lecture theatre was to start charging their laptop, and it basically stayed plugged in throughout.

It’s just a nice feeling to know that you have enough juice to last the whole day without needing to charge your laptop even once.

This video makes me laugh. Many years ago, around 2006, I was a full-time video editor using a Mac Pro and Final Cut Pro. I was editing short standard definition videos for distribution online. Exporting a 5 minute video would be a 15 minute to 1 hour process that I would always do at the end of the day. Reviewers like these are exporting 5 minute 4K videos in just over 2 minutes on a fanless laptop. Here I was worried about my 15 inch Air being able to handle video. LOL!

13" Air is a fantastic laptop. Be happy with what you have.

Great post. Get the machine that works for you and don’t worry about what gets posted on the internet.

I’ve come to the realization that the Pros and Airs are just 2 very different machines for very different people. An Air is not a ”lesser” Pro, but just a different machine.

Yes. They offer different features for user needs and are great machines for each of their targeted use cases.

I have an M1Air and M1MBP, each for different reasons.

Scandal! I hope that the EU will release a law that bigger batteries have to be installed even if there is enough space 😉
I hope they don’t. Do you really want bureaucrats that likely know nothing of technology legislating how sophisticated devices are built? Governments aren’t up to that, and shouldn’t try.

more like we need a law to keep greedy, ignorant government officials from doing so.

The ssd at 256GB is just sad for two reasons, 256GB in 2023 is crazy small. Apple overcharging the upgrade on memory and storage is also sad. Come on Apple Steve would not be impressed I can think of multiple quotes of his.
I know two people who just bought Apple notebooks with 256 GB storage. In both cases, they will never need more.

These people are using their Mac for web surfing and emails and ordering this from Amazon. Not much else. They got the Mac (and not a Chromebook) because in integrates well with their iPhone. Neither of these people will ever use even a spreadsheet or "Pages". This is likely how 80% of Mac users use their computer.

Myself? I bought an M2 based desktop recently with 512 GB storage, but I have a 10 GBe wired connection to a Synology NAS.

So there are two good reasons to buy small storage on a Mac (1) you are a typical casual user or (2) you have some other place to store your data.

I do. I use my 13” M2 MacBook Air for software development at a client’s office. I’m usually on the computer for 90% of the day. Yesterday I did a 10 hour day. I had about 15% battery remaining at the end. Of course I could bring a charger but I’m happy that I don’t need to or even have to think about it.
