In order to come up with a conclusion if you should purchase it or not you must think to yourself that Apple releases new products ALL THE TIME. There will always be something better and newer coming out.

I think it's the best time to buy a rMBP because we don't know what's going to be released next time. We never know if they release the mbp with a butterfly keyboard with minimal travel. That's why I got mine without waiting. You never know when they might release something you might not like.

Alright guys, I think I came to the conclusion of just going ahead and purchasing one rather than waiting.

One last question...

B&H is offering the Apple 15.4" rMBP (Mid 2014) with: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 (Crystalwell), and the 512GB Flash Storage, NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Graphics (2GB), (See Link) for $1,799.00

Or go with the Apple 15.4" rMBP (Mid 2015) with: 2.2 GHz, 256GB of Flash Storage, Intel Iris Pro Graphics "Integrated" (See Link) for $1,879.00

Is this pretty much a no brainer? I don't know if I'll realize the faster processing speed or not. I was just at the Apple store and I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the "Force Touch".

I actually owned both - they were kind of indistinguishable aside from Force Touch.

The 2014 gets my vote..

2014 is a no brainer. Twice the storage , nvidia card and faster CPU. What is there to think about ?

I also recently purchased a top of the line mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15" (2.5GHz i7, 512GB PCI-e SSD, R9 M370X). However I got buyer's remorse when I saw that the Apple event will be in March where they will announce the new MacBooks, including the possibility of redesign, Skylake, even more RAM, USB-C, TB3 etc. I just returned mine yesterday.

Hoping Apple puts in a GTX 960M or GT 950M, which are incredibly fast mobile GPUs compared to R9 M370X (barely 10-20% faster than GT 750M).

Same model and no buyer's remorse here. But I got a very decent deal, and if I wanted to sell and upgrade next year, I could easily sell for more than I paid and spend a few hundred more for the newer model. It'd have to be pretty amazing for to consider upgrading so soon though. It's great machine and should be good to go for quite a few years.

By the time the Skylake model ships there will be rumors of the next model having Camnonlake and more important 3D Xpoint nand making ssd drives 1000X faster than current models. This will cause even stronger motivation to wait for the 2017 model than people have to wait for the 2016 model .;)

Thank you all for the help! I decided to go with the Apple 15.4" rMBP (Mid 2014) from B&H.

Much Love,

Z

I am also in similar situation but the difference is I have a 2015 13" right now and want a bigger screen. Is the 15" that much heavier and bigger when travelling? Don't really care for force touch so looking at that good deal on the mid 2014

I just did it, good luck :)

I think you're looking at an extra pound of weight. I personally find it quite light and travel-ready, but I'm coming from an 15' HP Envy. The weight is nicely distributed, and of course the build quality is solid.

And then I'm over here excited that I just ordered myself a 2012 non-retina 15" i7 quad.

I just plain and simply wanted the ability to have a 512gb SSD and a 2tb storage drive installed in place of the dvd drive.

Buy a new one.

IF you're that desperate to upgrade, when the new ones are released, sell at a $300 loss or some **** and buy the new one. That way you've still got 4-6 months of macbook heaven.

TBH though I doubt you'd do that. the update is just going to be incremental performance increase IMO. rMBP doesn't need a redesign. They have a new MBA line to worry about and shifting their new MacBooks.. the pro is in a very nice stable place atm.

I just went ahead and ordered the 15" 2015 model today. When I looked, and saw that the 15" was 1 pound lighter than my 2010 15", I figured that was good enough, and still retain the bigger screen. I should get it by Wednesday.

Best Buy is selling the Top of the Line model right now @ a $300 discount.
$2899
2.8GHz (up to 4.0GHz Turbo), 16GB RAM and a 1TB drive. They also matched B&H's near $100 A/C savings and threw in a $100 iTunes card (I had a couple of gift cards and R/Z points).
I'm updating from a 2012 rMBP 15" 2.7/16/768. Sold it yesterday on Craigslist for $1840! Not bad for a 3 and a ½ year old computer....that's still hauling ballz!

The 2012 was the best computer I've owned in my 30 years of computing. I'm definitely NOT spooked by an imminent upgrade --- and when it comes to video editing, effect editing with both FCPX and AfterEffects/Premier, these AMDs absolutely SCREAM!!! Significantly better than a 10-20% 'bump over the 750m!'

If it's gaming frame rates you're after, find a PC. IF you're into creative work or anything OTHER than playing the latest Triple A title at 60fps @ 4K (No real laptops can even pull that off at this point, the hard core games are still bringing the mobile 9XX series to their knees @ High resolution!) --- this MacBook Pro is Fan Freakin' Tastic!

went ahead and upgraded from 13 to 15. loving the extra screen real estate so far. still getting used to the size but glad i upgraded. i got the 2015 base model.
