15 inch MBP is too expensive.

Yes, BMW M3 is too expensive. I don't understand why.

328i starts at $33,500 dollars.

And then all of sudden M3

goes for $55,000. Why?

I just don't understand why M3 costs so much more than 328i.

Wow, don't think that's a fair analogy.

Yes sure, I love my MBP and I bought the one with i7 and 500GB HDD, it's working brilliantly and hands down the most solid and beautiful laptop I have ever owned. I just think they should offer a 1TB drive in higher end configurations to better suit in the Pro name and the price.

But Apple is not like Sony :D Apple overcharges you and gives you a working product to use; Sony overcharges you and gives you crap (personal experience; no offense).

To play devil's advocate I actually see more Apple computers come in for repair of motherboard failure and HDD failure then sony. And I know we sell a LOT more sony.

But then again, Its not a foolproof estimate of failure rates, They all break. The key point is once again, They are both well known for overcharging for what "usually" is good hardware. No offense taken, I think both brands are awesome, Except I don't see sony making the uni-body enclosure, So apple wins in my mind for that alone.

There is more to a computer than specs, Apple appears to be the only one to see that (and take advantage of).

and the most prominent example is the iMac.

I'm not sure what do you mean, but here is my thought: the MBP 15" is expensive, but given the spec, the MBP 13" is even more expensive.

+1

as with any mac, the more powerful rig you get the more you get for each buck.

Seriously stop crying.. In Denmark the 15" line starts at 2500 dollars =)

yes :( getting my 17" made my bank cry!

Ha Ha, no-one ever bought a Mac because it was the cheapest available option.
MBP is much more expensive than most comparable laptops on paper.

I had a 2010 13" MBP and sold it for the 15" base model. It is about 50% faster, confirmed by geek scores due to the different CPU. No regrets for making the swap but I confess I also got great deals on each. I bought the 13" for only $999 at a Microcenter (and sold it for what I paid on ebay) and I picked up the base 15" MBP for only $1,675 on Amazon (no tax and free shipping). Then upgraded the ram to 8Gb for a little over $100 and will soon upgrade the hard drive to bigger and faster.

The most expensive way to buy a Mac seems to be to buy direct from Apple. The only great deals for Apple are refurbs

maybe i was just unlucky, but my experience with macbooks ain't the best...
First time I got a macbook white 2008 with the GMA integrated gpu, well, i wanted gaming so let's just leave it at that, not their fault.
Second time I got a macbook pro 15" late-2009 model (c2d 2,4ghz, 2gb ram, nvidia 9400m+9600m gt).
I supposed those cards would be enough for gaming, but as it turns out, boot camp could only use the 9600 card, which resulted in overheating (the mac just shut down on its own after 10minutes or 1hour, kinda random) while running windows (tried xp-vista-7, nothing worked). So basically I was stuck with parallels for windows usage, which also sucked for gaming.
That's why I'm hoping they don't put a discrete GPU in the 13" or the overheat will happen again, and i'm not buying that. Shared GPUs ftw!
Now i'm just waiting for the new lineup and decide, new or refurbished. althought its kinda hard to find refurbished here in greece but most stores sell the old models too (same price as before though, wtf?)

13 MBP starts at 1199 dollars.

And then all of sudden 15 inch MBP

goes for 1799 dollars. Why?

I just don't understand why 15 inch costs so much more than 13 inch.
You shouldn't complain, in the UK the 15" starts at £1,530! (nearly $2,500 at current exchange rate).

Would just like to point out that for your analogy to work you would have to assign the 13" to the 3 series and the 15" to the 5 series...or 1 series vs 3 series etc. M3 and 3XX are the exact same car physically just different engines/trim/suspension etc which would be like a base 13" vs an ultimate 13". So a more accurate comparison would be: How come the M5 costs more than the M3. Just feel like being difficult today ;)

Build quality, form factor, operating system, component quality, appearance, etc. are all completely worth the extra expense to me.

I've found laptops from other makers with comparable build quality aren't much cheaper. You really are paying for a well-built, solid product, which in a laptop is very important; much more so than a desktop IMO.

Hell, even the plastic Macbook is leaps and bounds ahead of most other laptops I've worked with.
