I want to make sure that I haven't gotten a faulty machine. I'm really not sure if that sound is normal. My old machine is a 2016 13" MacBook Pro and this one is totally quite. No whispering no blowing fans...

The fans go off pretty fast, but there is a weird whispering even if the fans are off. It sounds like harddrive noise from a couple of years ago only much more quiet.

I just want to make sure that this is normal?!
Are the fans kicking of that early for you guys too?

Today I have received mi replacement because the original had a problem with the screen hinge, and this have the same issue that your macbook, I have the 2.6GHz too.
I have called the apple store online and ordered a new replacement.
[doublepost=1534542594][/doublepost]Is like a coil whine but with the ssd, when read something the sound appears

how would you describe your problem? how does this sound for you?

It's something like this:
And when I turn on the virtual machine it's louder

Yeah! Definitely coin whining. It's the same with my machine.
Are you going to exchange it?

Some here say they all have coil whine. Mine does not so . . . .

You have 14 days for a refund, no questions asked, post 14 you can reach out to them and ask for an exchange because of the coil whine.

Yes, yesterday I called the Apple store online and ordered a new replacement, no problems with it.

My MBP is whisper quiet
Like my first MacBook Pro, but I replaced but a problem with the screen hinge, but now I believe that it’s normal because the newer have the same sound when I open the laptop (it’s like a strange click when I open it when I haven’t used for a while, if I close it and open didn’t do it), but this have the problem with the coil whine it’s even worse. :(, I shouldn’t have changed the first MacBook

I'm not saying it is an issue, just that other people here, make it out that everyone has the problem, we just don't know it yet or don't listen intently enough :)

Sorry on the need to replace the Mac and now having the coil whine :(

It seems that it only occurs with the external display attached. I have to do more tests...

In mi case it sounds with external display connected, only with the MacBook display, connected to the ac adapter or with battery, when I use the virtual machine it’s louder

I decided to keep the machine, since the reason for the annoying sound is probably my old Dell U2311 Display. Only with the docking station there is no annoying sound to hear.

I've had it on two 2018 MBP's. It seems a normal thing?

I got this "read/ write" type of sounds when I did the very first TimeMachine backup. Now when I do TM backups no such noises.

I don't get it when I'm editing videos in Final Cut Pro for example.

But strangely I do get it when I scrub a timeline in a 3D app running via Parallels which has nothing really to do with "read/ write" on disk.

Hmm.

The surroundings you're in has to be super quiet to actually hear it. And most often you can only hear it when you put your ear close to the keyboard.

So as long as this is not some malfunctioning thing or an actual issue it doesn't bother me. It's not loud enough.

PS: I just watched the video. That is definitely different and much louder than what I experienced.

Coil Whine... All new modern electronics have this noise but the noise level should be low.
How much low? It depends...

More than likely the SSD when it under load, should be silent unless it is under stress. It is like a HDD noise strangely enough.

Hey! I didn't find a pm option here, i also have screen hinge problem. My custom macbook pro 15 2018 2.6/512gb/630radeon/32ram, and when i didn't use it for few hours and trying to open it, it sounds like crackling once.
Also, after finished working, if you start closing it, it's crackling
I will be replacing my unit, so should i check the noise whispering when i get the new one, how to check it? if the new unit will be whispering, could i refuse it?

Hi, today I have received my new replacement and have the same sound that you, but when I don't use it for a few minutes no hours (it's worse than my first macbook, because when I close and open the screen it sounds but not so loud every time), I think that isn't the screen hinge because when I put my hear on the back the computer the sound comes from the top off the screen not from the hinge, Could it be that the screen is not properly fitted?, and I noticed the whispering when I use the windows virtual machine.
I don't now what I will do this is my second replacement :(
