Mine's still shipping 13th March. Given that I'm using an 867 MHz with only a 40GB hard drive, I can't wait for my 1.83 MHz duo with 120GB! It'll take a while to reach me though as I have to get my mother-in-law to DHL it on to Afghanistan. I can't wait to be the only one in this country with a brand new Mac!

I've got one in the basement. I'm gonna have to hang on to it until I move out too, no way I'm shipping my G5 across the country without matching Apple-quality styrofoam. not sure what I'll do with it in my apartment though, maybe an end table :D

Ship a computer? No way! I will lug it with me onto the plane :D

Yah I know it dosent make a whole lot of sense... If i can get 5 hrs out mine I would be very happy. I've never owned a laptop before, does anyone know if playing a dvd is a drain on the battery? The time I would need the battery the most would be for long plane rides, where I would mostly be watching downloaded movied or dvds. Anyone with a PB know?

Let's see. Computer, or computer + motor running, for hours. Does it cause a drain? Of course :)

So this is probably a stupid comment but how on earth could Socrates make a comment about Jesus?

I think the gist was a claim that Jesus was quoting Socrates, actually.

I can't help feeling like this release is the end of an era. :(
Well, I'm sure we'll all look back on it and recall fond memories in years to come when Apple are stalling their first AMD based notebooks. :D

Hi all! Cheers to those who are waiting for their MBP's to be shipped (although I still don't like the name all too much, just pronouncing it em-bee-pee, does sound kind of cool). I know the feeling of reloading the order status every 5 minutes, I was there not all too long ago while I was waiting for my iMac Intel.
And I really must say: How Apple is managing this transition is just amazing. Apart from the incredible speed, I quickly forget that I am actually running on an Intel box here. What makes it even more amazing, is that I am a software developer, and so far have had no problems transferring apps to intel. All of my apps that have been programmed to be portable compiled without a problem, even some really low-level C-code and some nasty C++ template constructs. Granted, these apps have all been tweaked to work with gcc4 and that is the only tweaking I have had to do so far, namely porting gcc3.3 code to gcc4. I also use alot of UNIX apps, especially KDE apps. Also, no problems here.
Anyway, I'm getting too OT here. All I really wanted to say is: Those MBP's are probably really fine machines. And once you have them, I'm sure you'll be thinking: What was all that fear about the intel-switch about? That is, if you even remember that you're not running on PPC. :)

You are a pessimist :)

I for one, see it as the beginning of a new era! The age of Apple!

I completely agree. There was a time when Apple produced the fastest machines on the planet but those days are gone. Yes we're using the same chips a everyone else now, but it now gives us all a chance to show fellow PC users that insist in using M$ how it's done.

I know half a dozen people who will now make the change because they feel some familiarity with intel and can understand the specs they are using. OK, the G4 could punch above its weight but it ended up in the featherweight division.

These are good days for us Mac users and now all I need is my blo*dy intel MBP  I am learning petience here.

Have I missed something here? Have some people on this forum actually taken delivery of an MBP? If so, where are all then benchmarks?

The "Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others" part is a quote attributed to Socrates, while the "Jesus was well-read" part is a comment by jacobj. A little hard to tell based on the formatting of the sig...

From the photographs circulating it appears that the track-pad on the macbook pro is larger than the old 15" powerbook track-pad, it appears as if it is like the larger track-pad on the old 17" powerbook. If anyone has a macbook pro to check - sorry just curious.

On http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html Apple says that it is larger (while talking about the scrolling trackpad).

These photos of the new MBP came from Apple.
Has anyone (Not an employee of Apple) REALLY received one?
It lloks like Apple leaked these photos for all us Geeks at sites like this.

My advice to you ... stay off the internet. You'll find lots of cool stuff that only takes a credit card # to order. :p

Eh...I cancelled it after about an hour or so of sitting there thinking "WTF am I doing??"

I'm going to wait.

just tracked mine this AM and it is now showing having arrived in Anchorage, AK. usually that means package will be delivered next day or two. I am not sure if FedEx is running tomorrow but if so there's a good chance I will get it tomorrow.. otherwise, I will expect it Tuesday.

Mine Shipped

i ordered mine within 15 minutes of the keynote ending. It is a CTO after doing the hard drive upgrade.

when the option came to get the 2.16 i jumped on it.... but after really thinking about it. i decided that i didn't need to wait an extra 3-4 weeks for less then 10% speed incress... although speed is always good.

friday i got an email saying that they tried to charge my card but was declined. a quick call to the CC company to find out that they were protecting me from fraud (which i appreciate).

anyway.... skipping skipping skipping.... this morning i awoke to an email that it has shipped. it will be here in a few days.

so, long story short (too late) CTO are now shipping too.

Sounds like every PC manufacturer is scrambling for duo allocations. I know Dell is in a bad position with their single core XPS series!

I ordered a 2 GHz M170 for $1995, but unloaded it due to slowness issues, and no 64 bit support!

I think I will try a macbook pro duo!

And the CPU and GPU busy decoding MPEG-2 video streams...

Don't be surprised when MBP battery life reports show up with lots of different numbers.

The Centrino bundle is pretty good at powering off stuff that's not being used - and that's where a lot of the Pentium M battery life comes from.

Running flat out, a P-M uses quite a few watts - so with heavy use of CPU the battery life will suffer.

Excellent points, Aiden. Better hope he's not trying to download anything over wireless, at the same time :)
Actually, with Centrino, isn't that a software radio? So wireless might affect the processor's ability to do other crunching, also?
