What happened to the Home Button?

That went bye in 2017 or so. So, 8 years back.

Drag your finger up from the bottom of the screen. While doing that you can also flick it upwards off the screen to clean that section up for the rarely used stuff.

a keyboard that doesn’t constantly switch between light and dark mode
That one is a heck of an annoying bug for sure. But the colour swapping goes a lot deeper than just the keybaord. I sort of wish someone at apple tried operating in dark mode, where a raft of these bothers appear, I think they are all light mode users.

Very happy to see alarms for reminders. Also the changes to multitasking for iPad is very good. Better control for saved passwords is also a nice change.

First Apple presents us with this Liquid ********, then they build in countless additional options to get rid of the nonsense again. In Germany, there is a word for this: ‘verschlimmbessern’ (make something worse by trying to improve it).
Fortunately, the person who came up with this user interface has left Apple... Let's hope Apple comes to its senses. Apple would be well advised to make Liquid Glass completely deactivatable and return to the old interface. Ultimately, this would also be beneficial for the battery life of iPhones/iPads...

Keyboard was improved with 26.1.
This strange switching between light and dark is mostly gone since this version.
Improved yes, but still happens multiple times every day for me.
they can't fix it if you didn't report it.
I didn't realize Apple had outsourced quality control to their customers. I hope I'll get paid for helping Apple fix obvious bugs that never should have existed.

apple, give us a system wide manual (no presets!) EQ please. one that remembers settings for each speaker, car, headphone, earbud, etc. and works on all apps. why do we have to rely upon individual manufacturers to provide what the OS should by default? why do we have to change settings for each different output every time?

For which phone is that?

I am skipping iOS 26 so far, as it scored terribly for iPhone 13 in the iAppleBytes battery test, and I have a 13 mini.
I have a 13 mini and ios26 has destroyed my phone. I may finally have to give it up.

It is just not connected to rest of the data. The REM and deep sleep for me makes the biggest difference but not reflected in the score at all
It’s a joke. I work nights. I have the sleep focus schedule to start at 11am. For some reason it keeps telling me I’m hours past my bed time.

Set a Reminder Alarm

reminders-alarm-complete.jpg
iOS 26.2 brings a new alarm capability to the Reminders app. When you create a reminder, you can toggle on an "Urgent" option so that, at the due time, your iPhone sounds an alarm rather than simply showing a notification.
Since this is for very important reminders, the default button should be “Stop” to stop the alarm - which then gives you breathing space to think about how/when to process the reminder.

Having the default button as “Complete” increases the chance you’ll hit it in the heat of the moment and just continue with whatever other activity you’re busy with. You know, like: driving the car, reclaiming luggage at airport, interacting with a DoorDash delivery, rescuing a cat from a tree. Before you know it, you’ve forgotten the urgent reminder even though you marked it complete just to silence it.

Feels like careless “design”. “Stop” should really be “snooze” in blue - and you get another alarm in 5 mins. “Complete” should be the tiniest button imaginable.

Does the selfie cam automatic orientation switch work for you on 17 models?
Tested it again today and it doesn’t work for me.

The SE 2022 model still had the home button.

Another thanks for nuthin' set of features! Seriously stupid and seriously bad. Consider that it probably cost millions of dollars for this "upgrade".

I tried dragging sideways, I'll try what you said, thanks for the tip.
I still prefer the way the iPhone 6s works, I will miss the home button

The things I want my iPhone to do include having a keyboard that doesn’t constantly switch between light and dark mode and having app icons that don’t look blurry and weird.
I was starting to think I was the only one infuriated by the identity-crisis keyboard. For God's sake, WHAT is the point of the keyboard constantly morphing from black to white when the user has specifically chosen a dark or light system theme? The imbeciles making these kinds of incomprehensible UI decisions are not fit to choose the colors in a box of crayons. Total cringe.

Although any optimism that once existed has faded, giving Apple the benefit of the doubt, it will be interesting to see what iOS/ iPadOS and macOS 26.2 actually bring in the way of improvements to productivity.

The entire Liquid Glass experiment certainly appealed to those desiring a different look, but it did nothing for those who found it detracted from fast efficient computing.

For a company that does back flips to appeal to the children, its Image Playground, Memoji, Stickers, Contact Poster and other cutesy fluff is rather annoying. Welcome to Apples World.

Tested it with words like „cat“, „food“… worked good so far.
Back in the good ol' days of iOS 18.6, I could search for "plumeria" and get all my pictures of plumeria flowers. I have hundreds.

Now, in iOS 26 -- ZERO. Instead, it wants me to search for "templetree"... wtf is a templetree? (Yes, I did look it up and understand that in some places around the world, it's the same thing). "Frangipani" is also a popular word for plumeria, but that search also returns (you guessed it!) ZERO results.

So why did it work in all the iOS versions before 26 but not in 26? It's broken, that's why. Surely "plumeria" is not the only broken word.

Did you take a bunch of photos during the last time?
Sometimes the re-indexing takes a while.
I had it on my phone. Was on a trip to Asia where I took around 1300 photos, had the phone mostly on battery saver mode on that trip.
It took almost 4 weeks after being back home until the travel picture books from the photos app were organised again. Even some older ones from former trips were shown without a naming… was strange but thankfully it fixed by itself.
Was also before the 26.2 RC update, so it’s not related to this version.

I have been in the EU for a year now and, I have been using live translation. Perhaps it is because, my account was set up in the US.
