I’m guessing none of you have any experience with titanium, because if you did you’d realize that it scuffs and scratches if you breathe on it.

Yeah my titanium Apple Watch has a bunch of scuffs on it and I have no idea where they came from. Meanwhile my graphite SS watch still looks perfect.

The other day I took my 12 Pro out of its case because the case was damaged. About two days while I fettled it and glued it up again. It felt like every single minute of that time I was worrying about dropping it. (Though with a new phone on order, I just need it to remain acceptable for use then trade-in.)

I can't tell you how many times I dropped previous phones - Galaxy IIS was probably the most dropped. Back and battery flying time and time again. Yet I managed to trade it in still working.

I also use the case, folded back, to hold the phone in my left hand while using it with my right.

Since iPhone 6 iI bought an Apple Leather Case and a Red Product Silicone Case, ending to go caseless (6, 7, 8 plus, X, 12 mini and now 14 PM) with AC+. Once caseless, it’s really difficult to came back.

This isn't true. I have gone naked since the iPhone 4 and I have NEVER dropped my iPhone or had a scratched screen. You just have to know how to handle it properly. I dropped a weight on my iPhone 12 once and used AppleCare to get an another one, but I have never dropped one. Since the weight mishap, I did start putting a case on at the gym, though.
I always take extra care of my gadgets, you can say I worship with my gadgets.

But I would like to share my past from my first full touch screen smartphone till now....

Nokia Lumia 900 was my first smartphone with full touch screen capability. The company made strong claims that it has Corning Gorilla Glass 2 which is strong, scratch resistant and bla bla. In few months I noticed a micro scratch on the screen, which was only visible if someone closely observes it, that scratch didn't affect the touch screen functionality, but like I said that I worship with my gadgets and love to keep it in brand new condition, so I wasn't happy. I took it to the company and asked, how can something so robust have a micro scratch like this, when it never fell from my hands. The guy sitting in the desk said, I must have kept it in my front pocket where my car key was, so the key must have caused that micro-scratch.

In couple of months, I upgrade to Lumia N920, the first smartphone with OIS, I used screen protector to ensure that it doesn't have a micro scratch, but no case, because Nokia claimed that N920 is a tank. Its body was made up of glossy poly carbonate, so I saw micro-scratches on back. Glossy surface is always vulnerable to micro-scratches, even if it is in a jeans pocket, where the rugged fabric of denim must have caused those micro-scratches.

Next year I upgraded to Lumia N950, whose design and camera I was really impressed with, and that phone came with an insurance. just one month after the purchase, my wife tried to take family picture and that phone fell from her hand and it was dead. But I got a new phone from the insurance.

My first iPhone was iPhone 6s Plus, it was lucky enough that survived up to 4 years, without any fall, but its screen protector had plenty of micro-scratches, I upgrade to iPhone XS Max, it slipped from my hands twice when I was holding it while walking in a party, but thank God, no dent, no scratch no damage, because of the tempered glass protection case. 3 years later I bought iPhone 12 Pro Max, before using it I immediately got a tempered glass protection and case. It fell once, from the bed when I was sleeping, its tempered glass had few cracks and dents, second time it fell when I was driving, I always connect my car infotainment with my phone and sometimes change the track, so while putting it back in pocket, it fell and the tempered glass protection had some more scratches. The next day I got the tempered glass protection replaced, and my phone looked like a brand new device. But few months ago, I was walking in my park, listening to music while holding the phone in my hands, it slipped, fell on rugged surface, despite having case, not only that portion of case was badly damaged, but the stainless steel frame also incurred bit of a micro-scratch.

I think I will be going caseless for the first time but most of my use is at home. I ordered a sleeve for when it is in my pocket or bag to keep it from getting scratched up. Got the new ATT screen protectors because they made the warrantee so easy.

Naked at home, clothed in a case at work/gym lol.

Apple clear case and one fine woven most likely.
Same.

I used to worry about every little nick and scratch. I would go through cases and screen protectors quite a bit. But, I also liked the look of the naked phone. My dilemma was to either keep the phone in perfect condition by covering it up or enjoy it and risk damage.

Once AppleCare introduced theft protection I bought it. Figured I was gonna spend that much on cases and screen protectors anyway. I tried naked at that time and got my money’s worth out of AppleCare! Although they took care of it promptly each time it was time out of my day/life getting it repaired.

These days it’s AppleCare and a simple case with no screen protector. The case prevents most damage from light drops saving me time and trips to the Apple Store. I have still taken advantage of AppleCare a few times when a drop managed to chip/crack the screen.

Now many evening I take the case off at home and occasionally, when going out minimalist, I leave the case off when out and about. I do still get micro scratches on the screen (I doubt there’s anything anyone can do to avoid micro scratches if not using a screen protector) but, as time has passed, I’ve stopped worrying and stopped noticing.

My AWU has been scuffed pretty bad. I just chose to ignore it since I have AC+.

I have a MagSafe clear case already in my possession for my 512 PM. I mostly didn't use a case for my 12 mini and it was largely ok, but I did drop it enough times to where the sides have minor nicks. So I'm going to try the case this time and see how it goes.

I just can't tolerate any scratches, even the smallest one will set me off. And I happen to like Apple's silicone cases. So it's going to be Clay over Black for me. Will look fresh. Arrives Friday.

My main reason for a case is less to do with scratches and more to do with how slippery the phone is. It would just slide off fabric furniture until I put it in a case. I don’t use a screen protector.

The only drop test I have found so far:
Did better than I expected. I think a very slim case still makes sense, as will avoid the scratches.

I hate babying my electronics. I put every iPhone in a Caudabe Sheath and call it a day. Haven't considered going naked in years.

I was completely caseless from the iPhone 3G through the 6s Plus. Needed to put a case on the Jet Black 7 Plus, and every iPhone after that has either been uncomfortable to hold or slides around too much without a case. Started getting AppleCare+ with the iPhone X.

Still, I always wait to buy/order a case until after I get the phone so I can try it out caseless and see if anything changed to make a case unnecessary. I generally went with the Apple leather cases, occasionally silicone, one clear (and I think one third-party). I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the FineWoven cases, and prefer leather anyway, but I’m gonna go check them out then decide what to get.

I wont go naked because i prefer to have my ESR case with the kick plate. i use it at least 5 times a day to prop up my phone and watch stuff or just have it propped up next to my desk.

Been several generations since I went naked but that natural titanium has convinced me this time around. Got AC+ and don’t have to worry about it. Can’t wait

Better drop test

14 Pro out performs, but the 15 Pro frame seems to handle short drops with less cosmetic damage. Sort of what I figured…Apple could have made a stronger phone or gotten weight savings, but not both. You have gone from a really strong steel shell, to a thin titanium shell with aluminum support.
