Hello guys,

After over a week of reading articles, throttling news and whatnot, I settled on the base model. So far, I have not noticed any throttling at all with my workload configuration. I am extremely satisfied.

I am however new to this size (15") and was wondering if I'm potentially damaging the computer in the way I carry it. I have a normal sized backpack. I don't have a dedicated compartment for laptops, so I use a sleeve that I got from Amazon and I just toss it in between my books. Now, since the backpack is a bit on the flimsy side, could I be potentially applying to much pressure on the chassis?

has this ever been a thing, or are these sturdy enough for me not to worry about it?

Thanks

Own both 15” (2016) and 13” (2018) MacBooks. I just put them in a sleeve and toss between my books. Never ever had any problems, so no worries ;)

Apple definitely makes sturdy laptops, but they suck at making a properly working laptops...

Same, these things are solid. I haven't had issues with screen damage from keyboard rubbing since before the unibody/glass display. With a case, I think you'll be fine. The only thing that I have ever had happen is one of the corners of a unibody model get bent from choosing a sleeve with insufficient edge padding. It was inside my bag in a padded sleeve sitting on my passenger seat, and I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting someone that pulled out in front of me and it flew onto the floor. It was barely noticeable, but did bent a little.

To be honest, the macbook has been the most rigid laptop I've ever used, it's very solid and I'm not exactly easy on it. I also throw it in my backpack and between textbooks and whatnot. It's always held up great for me for the last 5 years.

My original 15" rMBP from 2012 is still in extremely good nick. Dropped it off the side of my bed multiple times, been up and down new zealand and all across asia with it and taken it to and from school and now uni and its in fantastic condition. Left fans been replaced twice but there are no cracks or dents.

Just ordered a new 2018 15 inch but i think its safe to say these are extremely well built, the laptop lid is still as sturdy as it was the day i got it.

There have been some occasional reports from people that the finish on the space grey models wear off, but I haven't heard anyone complain about the laptop bending. As for the finish, I have a 2016 space grey and the finish is fine on mine. I don't have a sleeve for it. I just carry it in a laptop bag when it travels with me.

as long as you put it between books you are fine. They are durable, and will take some travel no problem. The only thing you should be aware of is not putting it next to something which can put pressure on a small area of the machine, that can be damaging in cases such as @themp experienced while driving.
