4500 years ago the first generation Sumeria Pro went on sale. The XL version came out a year later.

So I still have $1000 worth in my "assets"... 🤔 Ok, forget it! I don't think I'll ever be able to sell it! 🤷‍♂️
🙃
Sorry to burst your bubble but unless it is in immaculate condition, have the box with the accessories, and its unlocked I doubt you could get $1k and I wouldn't trust anyone saying they sold one for 1k...the ones that actually sold on ebay for example are going for around $50-70 right now...

Yep, and copy and paste is still a chore (selecting things you don’t want etc). It works, but it’s not great.

It didn’t help when they killed the looking-glass magnifier, then later brought it back by popular demand, but without the magnification. I mean, no offence to janitors, but it’s like they have the janitor making software design choices over there sometimes. Shocking stuff.

As the original iPhone was not available outside the US, getting one over here in NL back then was awesome, but jailbreaking it to make it work on Dutch providers was earth shattering! 😎

Man.. those early days of jailbreaking... cumbersome workflow... took ages to get it to work.

IIRC you need to "hack" iTunes first, connect iPhone to iTunes through USB, enable SFTP (root:alpine anyone..?), get some form of app on the iPhone through SFTP which attempted to "self-execute" what was needed...

I still have my original iPhone with OS 1.1.2 on it... sweet times...

I missed the first gen, I was into Windows Mobile devices at the time. I caught up with the 3G though. I definitely appreciate Apple for moving the world forwards, but sometimes I miss things not being "simple," which with Apple often makes them more complicated.

I remember the day fondly and the first moment I actually had it in my hands and was able to use it for the first time.

I still have mine, and it still powers up fine. If you have it, try this...

Turn it on, and use it for 5-10 minutes. Just scroll through some things, tap icons and get your eyes used to it.

THEN

Switch back to your current iPhone, and it really makes you appreciate how far it has come.

This always boggles my mind when I do this. The speed, the screen quality. We take for granted with every new iteration the progress each year since it's so minimal.

15 years...

I am truly hoping the AR/VR goggles in production give us the same sort of 'wow' tech moment we had in Jan - June 2007.

It was a revolutionary product up to the 4s. Then the iPhone 5 came out, and it just became a smart phone.

I didn't get mine until July 6th that year. It took me a few days to decide that I wanted one.

A few weeks later, I bought my first MBP because of it.

Balmer said nobody would be interested in a $500 phone.
He wasn’t wrong. iPhone sales didn’t take off until carriers started subsidizing it. Personally, I thought $600 was a steal, even with all the limitations of a 1.0 release.

I remember seeing them out and about at the mall the apple store near me was in, waiting in line to get into a restaurant. Crazy to think it was close to 5 years before I got myself an iPhone. I insisted a keyboard was necessary so I had a few Treos and then a Nokia E71, which really had a great typing experience but no apps and the browser was meh at best. Got a used iPhone 3Gs when the Nokia was no longer working while waiting for the iPhone 5 to release.

I remember think $999 for a phone was outrageous and that I would never be able to afford one. It wasn't until the 3G version was released that I got on the iPhone bandwagon. The halo effect of the iPod was real folks.
iPod third generation for PC -> eMac -> MacBook -> iMac(s) -> iPhone(s) -> MacBook Pro(s) -> Apple TV(s) -> Apple Watch(es).

Before that iPod I ran a PC. Since 10.4 I have been on Mac.

I am stuck in the cult!
Haha. I remember those good times. I actually started with a G3 iBook which came with both
OS 9 and OS X 10.0. OS X couldn't even play DVDs at the time so you had to boot to 9. Got that and a 1st Gen iPod that could only run on a mac, while at the same time I finally got broadband internet as well as Napster had just came out I was in music heaven. Also at the same time I got my first car in 2001, a 20th anniversary edition 1992 Camaro and had a cd player I put in it so I was also burning cds like crazy even for just 1 song, that is until I found out about the "revolutionary" fm tuner for my iPod which I spent more time trying to find the right radio station frequency instead of enjoying music 😂
