The drive linked to by the OP (the Seagate Savvio) is NOT a laptop drive. It is an SAS drive for use in high-performance servers. I think that the reason the OP is confused is because the Savvio is unusual in that it uses a 2.5" form factor as opposed to the standard 3.5" form factor of other desktop drives - this does NOT make it a laptop drive, far from it! The reason Seagate had for doing this is for better performance; a smaller platter means that the heads have less physical area to move across, reducing seek times.
 
I think with the connections and sizes its easy to get confused. There isn't a problem with dreaming though. ;)
