I must admit, when I first heard Dell was planning to release a high-end line of computers, it was cause for concern. Would it be harder to differentiate Dell stuff after Apple switches to Intel? Dell has not typically spent much on research and development compared to Apple and it shows. A high end Dell looks just like every other Dell except it is priced as high as a Mac.

Ugly. Bulky. Overpriced. Still doesn't come with OS X or Linux installed.

I'm surprised you had that DVD and weren't too embarrassed scanning it in for us....

i was thinking the same... also that laptop looks thick and heavy... when people see my pb they love how thin it is for the size which in this case is a good thing....

Well, maybe when Dell releases their second gen surely all of you will heave your Mac in the trash. I hear the new XPS line will look something like this.

Dell's new luxurious "iPod Killer":

well, with a prize between $2500-5000 they show that powerbooks are not totally overprized. powerbooks are in comparison still too expensive but not 3fold like the cheap dell crap seems to indicate. as soon as you want quality you are in the powerbook pricerange.

Anyone else notice that the case seems both dented and covered with greasy fingerprints on the lower left side of the case?

im sure thats just for a 'textured' look haha ;)

Yeah, the notebooks look like a car amp when closed, but those are some seriously good specs. If the new PBs come close, I'm getting one, regardless of whether or not I need to sell an internal organ or two.

That is one hefty laptop. For the uninsured, check with Michael Dell before buying to see if his company will help pay for hernia repair surgery that may be needed after lugging that around for awhile.

Again, the words Dell and Design should never be used in the same sentence....

Some other pics from the web site (below) seem to have been influenced by original Cylon designs from the 80s :p

Bah.

My Shuttle XPC looks nicer than the Dell XPS, as did the Lian Li I had before it, and my Powerbook looks nicer than that laptop thingy.

I'll give them credits for trying though.
