Plus phones are a great way to get a larger device if you don't care for the Pro features. The S24 Ultra is a great device, why do you want to get rid of it?

I really like both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus - they offer excellent value for money.

Honestly, any iPhone you choose would be a better option than the S24 in my opinion! ;)

Enjoy!

Big and light in the pocket? Yes lower specs but for older guys and gals does it really matter? we old anyways, are we gonna brag about 4k videos to people half our age?

It's the perfect phone and I'm getting one and selling my Ultra S24.
This year the 16 line is very good, and I was very debated between 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max.
But there are two factors that made me opt for the 16 PM:
- 60 Hz display ! On a €1259 device is totally unacceptable for me
- base model with just 128 GB of storage. If you choose the 256 GB version, the price difference with 16 Pro Max (starting with 256 GB) is just €200. Not so much on such an amount of money.

Technically they are great phones, with just on big “not so great point” in the display, but the price still is a little bit high, especially if you consider the base model is 128 GB. At the current price with 256 GB would have been clearly better value.

The issue I have with the 16 Plus:

1. The 16 Pro got slightly larger so it closed the gap in size.
2. The 16 Pro and Plus are the same weight.
3. The 16 Pro and Plus are only $100 USD difference.

So the plus gives you a .4” bigger screen and saves you some cash but the Pro has more features that could easily justify the price difference to even normal people.

I cannot go back to a 60Hz screen on my phone, I think once the Plus finally gets some sort of ProMotion…even if it is 90Hz, it will be close to perfect, IMO.

I guess it just really depends on what you prioritise.

Perfection is subjective. Modern iPhones in general will never be perfect for me because of their big size

Specs don't matter, phones are overtuned for everything these days

Perfect for non professionals. As a pro photographer, I need the best cameras and ProRAW format. A 16 plus would just be a phone & web browser for me.

Agree. Even a 90 Hz display would have been acceptable for the vanilla 16, if they wanted to differentiate from the Pro lineup.

With the age, the bigger screen could become useful also for you, I guess. I still have good eyesight, but I really appreciate content consumption over a bigger display.

I would say a pro photographer would need a proper camera, not a smartphone. If we are speaking about content creators and YouTuber I will agree

The iPhone 16 Plus has been great for me. The larger screen is perfect for media, and battery life is much better than my previous models. Performance is smooth, and the camera upgrades are solid. My only drawback is that it's still a bit pricey, especially with the base storage. Overall, though, it’s one of the best iPhones I’ve had.

I have both, iPhone and Sony A7RV. I will use the Sony for paid work, the iPhone for everything else, including pro quality shots like this.

I have a 15 Plus. It works very well and of course has great battery life. I'm finding it a little too big and heavy for dealing with all day long to be honest. My next phone will be smaller and lighter, and hopefully with rounded sides so it will be comfortable to hold unlike what we have now.

If the iPhone 17+ has even a 90Hz display, that's what I'm getting next September. The 60Hz display is the only reason I opted for a 16Pm rather than a 16+ this year.
There won't be a 17 Plus next year, they are replacing it with a new model referred to as "Air".

Almost every case can rounds up sides.

There’s no reason to switch from a 16 to a 17 anyway, with Apple (and almost every manufacturer). At least skip a generation…

Those are just rumors. We don’t know about the 2025 lineup yet. More informations will come in the next months (probably after march/april).

Finally decided to retire my 8 plus (!) and was fully intending to get a 16 plus.

Was never aware of the 60hz issue - I’ve always been happy with my phone’s display- but side by side the difference in scrolling between the 16 plus and pro was startling - even to my 57 year old eyes. Once seen I couldn’t “unsee” it…

Plus the AOD, 5x lens for £100 extra made the decision easy. The slight reduction in screen size isn’t an issue.

Agree with comments above that if they up the refresh rate on the plus it would be the best choice for a lot of people

Yep, just with a ProMotion display and everything else like it is now, the 16 would be an almost perfect product

Counterpoint:
1. 6.3 narrows the gap but the gap is still pretty wide from a 6.7 imo having tried both ymmv tho
2. Yes but weight distribution very different and 16 pro feels heftier for being same weight and smaller size

Battery life substantially better on 16 plus vs 16 pro also

60hz I get the concerns but if you aren’t directly comparing it’s fine imo and probably contributes to the great battery

Some may not care about same camera bulge as 11 pro with the trifecta thing going but it is a little stale. At least the regulars are a fresher aesthetic imo from the back and people generally find the colors more enviable than pro offerings

With the 60hz argument. Oddly enough I actually prefer it over 120hz on my 14 Pro. I kind of forced myself to switch to 60hz because of battery concerns. But it matches everything else I own (MacBook, computer monitor, watch, etc). The iPhone screen is still superior because of the OLED, but I don’t need to be concerned with the framerate differences between everything.

I've sort of lost track at any other differences between the Pro and regular models besides the camera (does that really even matter anymore?). I'm most likely getting a regular model next time I need to upgrade. I'll miss the always on display though.

You cannot “force” the refresh rate of an iPhone to 60 Hz: you are confusing it with an Android phone 🤔
And there are no battery concerns whatsoever: the Pro are slightly better than the regular, battery wise. proMotion is not always 120Hz: it automatically switches to the refresh needed.Besides, almost all MacBooks Pro released since 2021 have a 120 Hz display.
