An historic turning point in technology as Nokia slowly watched on as there empire began to crumble around them.
it took years for iOS to add some of the neat features that SymbianOS had, like timed user profiles (profiles that could be turned on during a meeting, that would silence your phone, and then automatically expire). I've never thought the slide switch on the iPhone was a great idea. Only in the last couple of years did we get Focus, and the ability to silence the phone based on different factors.

Truly an amazing product, that original iPhone.

Google Maps in your pocket was mind-blowing at the time, there was nothing else like it on the market.
I was quite partial to Palm Inc.'s Treo line, along with Handspring's cell phone Springboard module hardware extension. They're no longer around, but they do get credit for "being the first".

I still prefer the focus and clarity that old iOS puts around Music. Album Cover Flow, album art filling the screen. You can tell they had an obsession on music. I think Apple have lost that. Apple Music / iTunes is so messy and cluttered, various version of albums available, no clear way to distinguish between them and so on.
I agree on that one, but it's because of the focus to streaming songs rather than playing albums that has destroyed the "Music" app.

Who knew back then how much the iPhone would change the world.
As a Palm Treo owner at the time, I knew. 😉

True. Google Maps was available on Palm OS devices about eight months before the iPhone went on sale.

As a goof I purchased one share of Apple stock just before the announcement. I think the stock split 4x, 7x, 2x, and 2x since. Cashed out years back at $2200+. But made me sad I wasn’t smarter to buy more, obviously.
Well how could you have known back then? If I was smarter I would've bought as many as I could back then 😂

I miss the smooth clean design of the back. Now we have an obnoxious out of control lump on the back of the phone. It’s ridiculous.
That camera bump was something that I honestly thought would be a bump anymore after the iPhone 7 and beyond but was in fact quite the opposite; it just kept getting bigger and bigger

Minor conveniences IMO. I already have my debit card handy at all times, and it's still faster to have no passcode than bother with Touch ID and Face ID.
Do you live in a big city?

I haven’t taken a wallet with me in a couple years in London (outside of travel) and the fast pay option on Apple Watch / phone is a lot more used than airdrop, which is limited to other apple devices.

Apple Pay has been the single most convenient feature apple has given me (outside of the world on a screen in my pocket)

Yes I do. When my wallet is essentially just a holder for travel/bank cards, and I use an iPhone 4, I think the combined size and weight is far less than a modern iPhone / iPhone Pro, and that matters to me more.

Then Apple Pay isn’t a minor inconvenience for you since you don’t have an iPhone that supports it. Apple Pay is hella convenient, you don’t have to take out your wallet then your card then put it back in your wallet and put your wallet back in your pocket

Agree 100% on apple pay / wallet.
I was in a 2 week business trip to Japan , bought a subway “PASMO” card, uploaded it to apple wallet. Multi times daily just apple iPhone quick touch the sensor as walked thru gate. Easy to add more yen in the phone.
