So I've done some researching and found this Komputerbay 16GB DDR3 RAM (2x8GB) kit for only 100 dollars. I think that this may be a price low for a 2 x 8GB kit. The reviews are stellar, and I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase it. Here's the link (shortened) http://trdd.us/pn
Hope you enjoy this deal and please let me know how it goes if you buy it!

I upgraded mine and ran MemTest86 while keeping an eye on temps.

Temps got 10C higher with 16GB as opposed to 8GB and after the third repetition the RAM failed the diagnostic.

I may have had a bad set of chips, but definitely do full diagnostic testing before relying on such memory.

Because it costs less?

Besides... all RAM generally comes from the same chinese suppliers. It's simply branded differently. So yes... always buy the cheapest freaking RAM you can find from the most reputable seller.

To anyone that disagrees I say... "duh".

*bingo*

The fact that this deal has stayed so long is making me think we might be seeing competing companies dropping their prices soon. Sweet.

16 GB is the new 2 GB!

So I've done some researching and found this ... 16GB DDR3 RAM (2x8GB) kit for only 100 dollars.

If you have 4 slots you can get 16GB DDR3-1600 4x4GB for as little as $80.

Don't ask why you need 16 GB. Just go for it. 16 gig is the new 2 gig.

Be very careful with Komputerbay.

They are known for selling a low-grade memory that has a higher chance of Memtest fail.
That's why its two times cheaper.

why do u people put cheap ram in ur 1000 dollar plus computers?

I bought a number of pieces from Komputerbay, and have had progressively worse service.. Im amazed they're still in business..

Bad RAM sticks, terrible customer service.

one stick kept causing my Macbook to do hard-shutdowns..

had to do credit card chargebacks to get money back on some.
they have been under investigation for selling fake brand name RAM as well.

I'd steer clear

Komputerbay?

I wouldn't buy anything from someone who can't even spell computer! :D

Our kids are gonna laugh at our 16GB debate and pricing when they're our age.

I was just talking to my Dad who's only middle aged, and he said the first computer he used when he coded for Apple only had 64kb of ram and no hard disks.

Lucky him - he had the 16kb add in card.

If you bought the Komputer Bay Memory you may need to replace it with the lifetime warranty. They are no longer supporting it for Macs. Sending mine back now.

This Memory will not work in Apple Mac computers - only in PC (Sony/Dell/HP/Compaq/ASUS/Lenovo/IBM/MSI/etc.) with Intel or AMD Processors. If you need Mac Memory - please refer to ASIN: B009GYW1B2

Why would this not work in Macs??? The specs are perfectly fine for Sandy bridge running Macs, it shouldn't really matter.

Not sure, Komputer Bay is replacing them and put on their sales pages not for Macs now. You'd need to ask them, but they are replacing them for free. So just letting people know. I bought mine from this post, and am sending mine in for replacement.

I have a 2010 macbook pro. I'm going to be upgrading to 16gb but having trouble deciding which ram to get. I think I've narrowed it down to corsair on amazon since they have good return policy and good prices.

But there are two models and I have no idea what is the difference between the two. Which one should I get.

Option A - $58 - http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Chann...TF8&colid=1HOYCL6NHALLK&coliid=I27JUPBUFAROYN

or

Option B - $80 - http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Venge...TF8&colid=1HOYCL6NHALLK&coliid=I3SRLC1NUTPRRQ

Thanks!

2010 MBP can only recognize 8GB RAM - (Someone can correct me but I'm 99% sure this is correct).

Not sure what speed 2010 MBP will recognize but default is 1066 - option A is for 2011 models 1333 - option B is for 2012 models 1666.

I think you're right;)

MacBook Pro Wiki

Ah ok thanks, you're right. It looks like I actually have a mid 2009 MBP and it says I can handle up to 8 gb. Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between my 2009 and the 2011 that can handle 16 gb?

I have an intel core duo 2 which is 64 bit right? Doesn't that mean I can access 16 gb of ram? Thanks for the help!
