As of today I officially retract all of my predictions for a pre-Christmas 16GB iPhone. In order for it to happen it would pretty much have to happen along with the release of Leopard (today) or at the VERY latest the day of the EU release. If it were to happen on the 9th there would be some sort of rumblings. But there are still none.

Also UBS came out yesterday and said that they have been monitoring the Apple supply lines and predict a new phone in the spring. Follow the money. Always believe the Swiss.

All I'm saying is....

Can you imagine the backlash in Europe if Steve dumps a 16Gb model 2 months from release of the 8Gb iPhone ?? It would be worse than the $100 rebate when the 4Gb was junked. That's a BIG market to p*ss off

Why? They're not going to drop the 8GB model right away, so it would simply be a more expensive version with more memory.

Anyway, if we're making baseless predictions, I would guess not before macworld in january for 16GB, and not until mid 2008 or after for 3G, which AT&T is rolling out, but slowly, in the US

Now I do not see a new iPhone coming out by Christmas.

I do see a G3 iPhone coming out in summer of 08. Now the power issues of G3 are never going to be as good as GSM and edge. Simple reason is g3 is related lated more closely to CDMA than GSM. The one that is going to be used by the GSM providers is just a version of CDMA techology.

Problem with CDMA is it used a more powerful signal and yes that drains the battery a little quicker. But at the same time CDMA deals with building better than GSM and can cut though interferences a lot easier because it is more powerful. Plus CDMA tech does not cause speaker noise.

As for testing it been across multiple CDMA phones and GSM phones (and carriers for that matter) that I noticed that CDMA phones are not effected as much by being in buildings as GSM. Now I will say I have found some location GSM just works better in the building but I think that is because a GSM tower happen to be pretty close. But for most location CDMA just seem to deal with buildings and other interfacer better.

As for G3 and ATT well almost every major city in the US completely covered in g3 network.

My gut says that they will announce a 16Gb model on the same day as Leopard is announced and it will hit stores in time for the Nov 9th Euro release. A new model iPhone with expanded features will be announced in Feb.

Thought you were taking the piss there and saying the iPhone would have G3 processors in them but after reading your post I see you actually mean 3G not G3. Very different things!

Welcome to yesterday, when Leopard was launched. :)

PS: Still no 16GB iPhone.

I think logic dictates that we won't see a memory bump until the 3G iPhone comes out.

I think your gut was saying "I want a 16Pc meal from KFC" not a "16Gb model on the same day"

you people kill me, 8 GB is MORE than enough if you use it wisely. I keep telling people, the capacity of the devices they release doesn't mean you have to fill it. I don' get that. Just because they release an 80 GB ipod, it doesn't mean you have to find whatever you can to fill it.

AND....if they already had a 16GB iPhone you all would be holding out for the 32GB. here's a news flash....YOU WILL NEVER STAY CAUGHT UP WITH DEVICES LIKE THIS, IF YOU ARE THE ONE ALWAYS WAITING FOR THE NEXT GEN YOU WILL DIE WITH NOTHING...

what would a 16Gb iPhone have to do with leopard anyway?

someone needs to stick to decaf ;) I agree with you but the "u will die in a fire of hell" like responses are comical but really not necessary. :)

i think the next iPhone will be a 16GB. just look at the iPod Nano, it was 1GB and 2GB, then generation 2 went to 2GB and 4GB, Then the third generation went to 4GB and 8GB, so i think it is coming, but dont know when

Both gen 2 and gen 3 Nanos max out at 8 GB.
