16GB iPhones in short supply?

Is the 8GB model also out of stock now? On 5th avenues online store, it says 5-7 business days on that one too...
I really don't know what to do now. The person who is going to buy the iPhone for me are in New York 9-13 april or something.
Should I
1) Order from Apple Store online and get it shipped to where he is going to live?
or
2) Let him buy it when he is there. Probably pricedrop. But the iPhone HAVE to be in stock then! If not, I'm toast!

Nobody knows. And just because the Apple store is out of them, doesn't mean you can't find one at the Att store.

I was at the San Antonio Apple store yesterday and I overheard that the iPhone was not in stock. Today I read in the Huffington Post (!) that 2 of the 3 Manhattan Apples stores are out of stock. What gives?
Did Apple misjudge the demand (hard to fathom with the 10 million phone yardstick posted out there at year's end)?
Or is the supply dwindling becuase something is coming very soon?
And what about today's report on the 10 million iPhone orders by Apple from wholesale suppliers in Asia for 3G OLED units?

All I wanted for my 25th Birthday yesterday was an Iphone went to the Apple Store in Garden State Mall and they were sold out of both the 8 gig and the 16 gig. Later in the day I went to the Apple Store in the city after meeting my cousin and they were also sold out. How is it easier to find a Nintendo Wii when I went to Nintendo World then it is to find an Iphone. Just a little upset that I couldn't find an Iphone in stock.

ya thats true.. just say that its a gift... they will still ask for some basic info.. but i think you should be able to manage that..

my friend was today at the store and they told him that he cannot buy it without signed deal with the mobile company.
he's only till tomorow in ny so please help and tell me what he has to say(except thet it's for gift and that he'll activate it in itunes) to the man in the shop to be able to buy it.

I was in an Apple Store in Los Angeles today, at The Century City Center, and they too are out of 16 GB iPhones.
I've been a Mac fan for years. Usually when things get real low in stock all over, this means EOL is just around the corner and right after that is a new product announcement. Can they 16gb iPhone be EOL so soon? Maybe. Especially if the rumors are true that the orders have been placed for the 3G phones.
