I don't have any issue running xcode, FCPX, Logic, or Firefox, with other apps open as well eating up RAM. I've never seen the pressure go above 60%.

Mind you I'm sure there are plenty of scenarios where you'll need more than 16, but then if you need more than 16, why didn't you get 32?

OP had me fooled for a minute.

I thought maybe it's true bc Apple is definitely giving use the short end of the stick with 64GB iPhones if you ask me.

I need 128GB base to be happy. 256GB is too much. And 512GB no words.

Currently have Photoshop, Figma, Xcode, iPhone Simulator, Chrome, Safari all with a bunch of tabs / documents loaded right now and only am at about 25% memory pressure. I think a lot of people think they need more than they actually do.

Remember, more ram does come with extra power cost, so just getting extra ram isn't always the smartest thing to do if you don't actually need it, or want to 'future proof'

Obviously a troll post (why are people like this...?) but just to soothe the nerves of any potential MBP buyer that sees this I’ll bite...

I have the base model 16”. Had it since launch day and I’ve used it for: GPU rendering, mobile app development, 3D modeling, animation, photo editing, graphic design and web design. In some cases, I had 2 or more of those applications running at the same time.

In doing all of that, my 16gb of RAM and 5300 GPU has been more than enough and I haven’t hit any ceilings. For 4K video editing, it might be a different story but for most users, including pros, the base model offered more than enough and at a decent value.

I managed to learn SolidWorks 3D in Parallels VM with 8Gb
I am going to buy 16 inch mbp in feb 2020 with i7/16/512/r5300 for industrial design applications
Off if u have big assembly with large design table u need more than 16 (24 would be ok) but for modeling furniture/enclosures/car body 16 is OK even in Parallels

I still think it would be a good idea to have a sticky topic which acts as an FAQ about how RAM works and gathers some of the really useful, accurate and informative posts we've seen recently on the topic.
Frankly if anyone's advising spending $400 extra for 32GB to browse on Chrome mods should be handing out infractions for malicious advice...
