I compared apps on a iPad 3 and a iPhone 5 the other day and they were about the same size. Some were even a little smaller on the iPad 3. And no they weren't apps that had added content to them. Why would you think the Apps on an iPad 5 would be so huge compared to an iPad 3?

As for me, I'm going for 16GB. These things are expensive enough. Plus I don't ever add music or video to an iPad. I strictly use it for youtube, surfing, reading, and some games.

I am not comparing them. I am talking about the size of apps nowadays for hi res devices in general. I wouldn't recommend it especially for any kind of gaming 4-5 games there's nearly ALL your storage but hey your money.

And, yea, I can see where some people think an extra $100 to double memory from 64 to 128 is pointless. And, I can see where some people say buying 16gb is also pointless.
Comparatively speaking, 64 to 128GB is actually the cheapest memory upgrade.

16 to 32: $100 / 16GB = $6.25/GB
32 to 64: $100 / 32GB = $3.13/GB
64 to 128: $100 / 64GB = $1.56/GB

16 to 64: $200 / 48GB = $4.17/GB
16 to 128: $300 / 112GB = $2.68/GB

Ha! And there you have it folks. 128GB is the new sweet spot! :D

what kind of games are you talking about? How big is angry birds for a retina ipad?

Right on the money. Most folks look at these each jump as a 16 gb jump. Wrong.

I really can't decide now. My mind tells me to get the 32gb but my wallet says the 16gb lol. Now walmart sells the 16gb for 480 making it a $120 difference, plus the tax for the 32gb will be a bit higher, too. That's a significant amount if you ask me :( do you think it's worth it?

Ps: I don't plan to get a 64gb or higher

16gb isn't worth it. It doesn't hold much at all. 32gb for me!

16GB if you only plan on holding onto the iPad for one year.

Ideally I would like 32GB but I only use my iPad to browse the Internet and watch Netflix. I am not joking when I say that I can get by on 8GB if I was forced to.

My iPhone on the other hand is 64GB.

Usually I would recommend the 16gb base wifi model.

1. How many apps do you use? How large are they.

iPad apps are getting larger and larger. Add up all the iPad apps you may use. Than give you else about 3-4GB spare just in case.

Think there is about 14Gb usable space in 16gb? So do your calculations there.

Get the 32GB. That will be the sweet spot for iPad. Good game nowadays are about 1GB-2GB in size. 16 will be easily filled in no time and you will get headache sooner and more often because of this.

On a side note, I loved Apple products. However I hate their $100 up charge to the double your storage. SSDs are getting much cheaper by day, and it certainly does not cost extra $300 for Apple to upgrade our storage from 16-128.

Hmmm..... Audi, Bentley.

Nah, get a Tesla.

LOL!

Without REALLY knowing what the OP will be doing, it is hard to say.

I have a 32GB iPad right now and it has about 8GB available. I am going to buy the 64GB iPad Air. I don't see a reason to buy the 128GB. When I asked in another thread, only one person responded saying they watch tv shows which is something I wouldn't do on my iPad. 128GB is a lot of storage.

I'd say for the OP, save up, buy the 32GB. You don't necessarily need it right this moment do you?

I think the sweet spot is 128GB. 128GB is sweeeeeeeeeet.

Except if you use under 64GB then it is a waste of money :)

I couldn't afford the 32GB when I bought my iPad4 and I regret it! I have to go through usage tab everyday and tweak the apps and delete/reinstall them to gain space.
Thank god I have my iPhone to put all my music and photos in, it carries most of the weight, so; get 32GB and you never regret it.

How is your space divided up on the iPad? What do you use the space mostly on?

My wife uses it mostly for internet, Facebook, email etc. I use it for photo editing and (I have iPhoto and Photoshop Touch) I try to use my iMac as much as I can but it's way easier. and I play Fifa 14 a lot :D
No music is stored in the iPad, all in iPhone.

Unless the retina apps on iPad are substantially larger than a retina iphone then I will be going for 16gb. These things are expensive enough.

Racing games, GarageBand and most of the nicer looking/functioning ones they are usually upwards of 1GB toward 2. Running out of space and constant syncing is no fun like I said just save up it'll be worth it in the end.

I filled up my 16 GB iPad 4 in no time. They shouldn't make a 16 GB retina iPad. Which contrast my 16 GB iPhone 5 where I've had no space issues at all.

I wish 16GB was feasible, because I like the price. I originally bought a 16GB mini because the $279 refurb price really appealed to me. I quickly realized how quickly 16GB goes. I returned it and got the 32GB instead.

I recently responded to a similar question in the iPhone section. Someone was trying to decide between a 16GB and 32GB model.

I understand that US$120 is still a lot of money, but in my opinion, 32GB is the new 16GB. It will fill up a lot quicker than you think with music, videos and apps.

You throw a couple of TV shows on it and you will top out at 16GB fairly quickly.

This is exactly why I am now considering going 64GB in lieu of 32. I've never been lucky enough to own an iPad yet, so have been doing some sleuthing as to how much the iOS, apps & usage I'm considering, will come into play. 16GB will go much too fast. 32GB might & possibly would cut it, but it will be close. After waiting this long to own an iPad, I'd really hate to later regret not forking over an additional $100 for peace of mind. I can't afford to upgrade every year so will be using mine for at least a couple years.

Thanks guy. I'm gonna order the 32gb. :) $120 is significant but deffinitely worth it. I know I'm gonna regret if I buy the 16gb..in the past I got a 16gb ipad 2 and I didn't feel happy with that storage. Now with all advices you gave, 32gb would be the one to get. For the usage, I'd like to read manga/comic. Streaming I have Netflix, but I'll put my files in there too. Not a big fan of 3D games tho. Music, photo and personal video will be on my phone.

Oh and the resale value, I think the 32gb can be sold for around 80-$100 more than the 16gb (next year I think I can sell it back for 430-$450)So this helps ease the situation now:)

When I got my iPad 2 in 2011 I thought 32GB would be enough. It wasn't. This time I think 64GB will be enough, so I'm thinking 128GB.

I really have no idea how people get by with a 16GB iPad. Apple should make the minimum 32GB, and perhaps keep a 16GB model around for education and other cheap business volume licensing such as for cash registers, etc. Flash memory is cheap nowadays. It's difficult to be a part of their ecosystem with only 16GB. Photostream, apps, and iTunes content takes up a ton of space! Not to mention the OS takes up a small chunk of space and to make sure your device runs smoothly you should really keep 1-2GB free at all times.

It got so bad trying to manage free space on my 32GB iPad 2 that I had mostly stopped using the thing. My 64GB iPhone 5 occasionally runs out of space too. I was taking a video of a ribbon cutting ceremony at work a few weeks ago so I could post it to our FB and Twitter and ran out of space just before the ribbon was cut. I was so mad! I'm hopeful that a 128GB Mini will allow me to install most of my games and I can remove them from my iPhone freeing up a bunch of space. I also want to get a Lightning Camera Connection Kit so I can dump photos off my iPhone and 7D.
