I've been arguing for years. It's 2015, the iPhone should really start out at 64GB minimum, and go up from there, but we're still at 16GB storage (really less than that after formatting and OS). I wonder which one lasts longer, the battery, or the storage space, when recording 4K videos.
Keep arguing cause Apple ain't listening to you. Just pay measly $100 more or don't buy an iPhone. There are many good alternatives.

Of course Apple doesn't give a ****. They're Apple.

A measly $100 cost for a realistic $10 upgrade, multiply by millions. Apple knows they are gouging the customer.

You think other businesses are not gouging you? You keep believing that until you die.

No, but I didn't think Apple users would bend over so easily. That's why I am never loyal to any business.

I use Apple product, but I still do my comparisons and decide first, instead of blindly following.

Why do you think Apple users are bending over easily? Because we are willing to put up with higher cost? Maybe lot of us don't have to penny pinch our way through life and you get to recoup lot of the higher cost with higher resell value. Simple, if you don't like their business practices just don't buy it. And most people don't blindly follow, they make the decision that it's worth it for them to put up with the cost.

And yet here you are, using Apple products, posting on an Apple centric forum.

If you don't like it, do what I do and vote with your wallet. That's the only way businesses listen-when their profits decline.

Your "yeRs of arguing" seem almost hypocritical to me, you supposedly moan about theses things, yet continue to buy Apple's products.

You're right. I need to wake up and stop buying Apple's stuff. I've been waiting for the iPhone 6s to come out. After comparisons, I just bought a Samsung S6 Edge+ to replace my iPhone 5s.

What I found interesting is that when I bought my 6S this morning (by phone) the first thing the guy said is "just the 16GB you're after?" as if it didn't even need to be asked, obviously the choice for most people still. He actually sounded shocked when I said I wanted 128GB.

That's it right there really... if people are still treating the 16GB as the go-to model then Apple aren't going to introduce 32GB or 64GB as a starting point at their own cost. Perhaps with all the bad words spoken about it over the last few months they'll turn it up for the next model to preserve their reputation but I'm not placing any bets.

The 16gb's were the first ones to sell out on my carrier. I was quite surprised, but if someone only needs 16gb, more power to them.

16 gb is the cheapest and it will always sell like hot cakes. It still is a better choice than any android phone right now. It does suck for the budget conscious that need a reliable phone and can't afford a extra $100. I got my first iPhone because android wasn't giving updates and I don't have wifi. If the base model was 32gb for the same price it would sell the same as 16gb did it more because less people actually need 64gb.

Pretty disappointing when you really think about it though.

Right now we've got better quality cameras on the phones which take up more space, better quality video recording, bigger app sizes, more apps, more people downloading/using apps on average, bigger app caches, and an operating system that takes up more space than it used to ~5 years ago. Hardware costs, especially Flash memory, have plummeted.

Yet we've had the same 16GB base storage on the flagship iPhone for 6 years (since the iPhone 3GS).

6 years is an eternity in tech terms. Skimping on storage is such a planned obsolescence move - as much as I hate that term. Get them into the ecosystem, make a lovely quality product, but cripple longevity with a complete lack of storage space.

Iphone 4, 4s, and 5c all came with 8gb options

I don't think calling the guy a penny pincher is necessary but I agree with you on all points.

4k samples are available to download from apple site.
A 21s video is 134mb which equals 6.38mb/s.

1Gb video gives you 164s = 2min 44 s.
5Gb video gives you 820s = 13 min 40s.

But then you have iCloud storage where the original movie is stored. So your movies, stored at the phone, will probably be converted to HD to save space, since the Iphone screen can't display more than 1080p.

So this way 16gb users can shoot 4K-videos, and have them available through iCloud but store HD-video to save space.

Also interested in getting these links. Are there full size sample photos too?

A lot of the girls I work with are perfectly happy with the 16g phone, they don't have many apps or a large media library. I rarely hear them complain about lack of storage. They make enough to by a 64g phone but don't want one.

I on the other hand have stuffed my phone with so much crap that I would have trouble downgrading from my 128g.

cNet has also reported one of the reasons in detail why Apple is not killing 16GB iPhone.
From that article:

But iOS 9 will still take up some space in the phone's flash storage (I have a 64GB iPhone 5S, with 54.2GB "used" and only 1.7GB "available," which means about 8GB is devoted to iOS resources).
64 Gigabytes = 59.6 Gibibytes ( 64*10^9/2^30)

So there's a large chunk.

It's a few dollars cost difference to Apple to build a 64gb vs. a 16gb phone. It's a $100 extra charge to consumers to buy the 64gb vs. the 16gb.

For the hundreds of thousands of phones sold of each of these models, including 32gb as the base model would inhibit and degrade from the sales of a +$100 64gb, as you can read how many people can't live with 16, but would be perfect with 32.

Why?

Because some people just want a phone to take 10-20 pictures a year and throw some apps on. People here are the minority of iphones sold, the "techy" people. I bet the 16gb sells the most overall of the 3 sizes.

It's an ASSumption that because the phone can do 4k everyone will use it at all (or on the 4k setting). I can't say I've ever shot any video on my phone going back to a 3GS, so 64gb is more than enough even with movies on my phone and a lot of apps.
