i have a 17 inch umbp and I carry mines around everyday to school. not a problem at all.

what i use to keep it safe is the moshi codex, works very well. I also have the stm convertible bag and the mbp with the codex fits perfectly in it (though i wish there were more pockets for other things).

if I were to reconsider things to get, I think a backpack that fits well with plenty of pockets that doesnt look too bulky, or a messenger bag would be a good choice. Plus maybe an incase sleeve, or booq sleeve. the moshi might be a little too much (but i do like it a lot, feels really safe) or if you dont need to carry much other things, a waterfield sleeve with the flap and piggyback would be nice, I still want one of those

I got the 17" over the 15" because of the higher resolution. Sure, it's bigger and heavier, but I'd definitely make the same choice again if I had to.

I carry it around with me daily.

i have the original 17" powerbook g4 that i still use to this day. i used to carry that thing around for years before i finally got myself a macbook air. it wasn't a problem at all and i would buy another 17" today if i could.

I currently have a 15" uMBP and I plan on giving it to my wife and buying a 17" before the end of the year, the overall better screen (size & resolution) is worth the extra $200 and 1lb IMO not to mention the ExpressCard slot and extra USB port.

While I haven't had the experience of toting my 17" beast around a college campus quite yet, I have taken with me here and there and with little problems. I fail to see why people complain about them being so big or heavy.. I do believe I've even seen people compare liking it to how tall they are or whatever. I'm 5' and just peachy with mine c: Even in my lap. I love it~

Buy the 17" because the 15" and the 13" models have the firmware 1.7 issues where you cant use any SATA-II hdds and only the 500gb stock hdd works fine (SATA-I).

Thats why I exchanged my 15" for a 17" antiglare and never looked back! Antiglare is gorgeous!

I would like to know how a 3KG laptop can hurt your neck. I am a Postman and carry upto 6 bags of mail each weighing around 16KG. Now THAT can but a burn on the shoulders.

However, if you were referring more to having the laptop 'bang around', just get a case

If you are a student and carrying books + computer + mouses and adapters, it hurts. As a result you end up carrying 5-6kg at least. I just made a point that I am facing based on my experience. You should know just because your neck doesn't hurt of carrying the postal bags, doesn't mean that everyone can do that. There are people carrying washingmachines on their back, that doesn't prove that i can carry it the same way.

I am a student, I had a problem and pointed it. I hope you learned how a 3kg laptop can hurt.

Environment can make a big difference too. I live in Singapore, carrying anything on your back results in a very wet uncomfortable mess.

If you're really concerned about the weight then consider getting the 13"
