is it just me or is everyone getting there shiping notification on a saturday

i think they do this to give fedex more time to deliver - since i got that 2 day delivery thingy. the 2 buisness days would probably be monday and tues. it says arriving on wed on or before 1030

What BTO options did you have? No notification for me =/

I just called and there aren't any hold on my account so it sooks like I'll still ship before the first of the month! Gawd this wait has been so long.

He also mentioned that they are meeting their quotes on the PBs which is obviously a lie in some fashion.

What was your order date?

I swear Apple is doing something really screwy. Maybe they are randomly filling orders.

doesnt ibm or someone have some 80gb laptop drives out. just wondering. now im curious to know if the new 17 inch powerbook will take 2gb of ram with the new introduction of 1gb so dimm drr chips. i know the 12 inch powerbook will take 1gb.

iJon

I placed the order feb 13th and had an on or before date of 4/25

then again i did write a pretty angry letter to the apple store and recieved an email stating they would try their very best to have it to me before 4/25. i think they did a pretty good job. 1 month early isnt to shabby!!

iJon

does it really matter if the 17" can take the 1gb chips? i mean they cost about 800 bucks. if you wanted 2 itd cost you 1600. for that price id just go out, buy me an iMac or a new display for the monitor. how bout we think about this when the price falls into a more realistic range. 800 bucks is way outa my league!..tho i am interested in finding outt too. :D

That probably helps. No one likes an angry heart broken kid ;)

I think I'd rather spend 1600 bucks on a nice monitor and sound system as well:rolleyes:

to Heart Break Kid

I can sympathize with you about receiving the laptop. I remember I was in my junior year (2000) at NCSU and needed to buy a computer (my first Mac ever). I got a phone call in my dorm room about a package that I had received, and I knew what it was. I ran out the door raced to the elevator for my 8-floor trip to the bottom, needless to say it was a big dorm and it took what seemed like an eternity (should have taken the stairs!). I had to bite my lips so that I wouldn't seem like I was mentally handicapped. However finally getting my package back in my room I couldn't get that box open fast enough. I wanted to caress it however my roommate probably would have thought I lost my mind. :D

Anyways it's still serving me faithfully and waiting to be able to afford the beautiful 17" PB.

Got my shipment notification today too :) Ordered my 17 on jan 15.

And a few words for those still complaining about how long it's taking... When you placed your order you did notice that it said "shipping in 7-10 weeks" right? And if Apple had waited until they were ready to ship before announcing them instead of at Macworld, how would you be feeling this week if you had gone and bought a 12" not knowing they'd announce the 17?

What about meeeee

I feel kinda cheated... I mean, I don't think anyone needs the computer more than HBK, but I ordered a 15" on Dec. 27, then the unlikely 17" came, they delayed my order, and I switched the day or so after the announcement. So I've really been waiting 3 months now. And today I find that my Mar 21 has just been pushed back to April 1. I ordered a BTO, but just added the 1G of RAM (Apple even carried over my promotion from the 15" making it just 40$). But come on now... It's just depressing. People who ordered BTOs in Feb are getting them now? The shipping must be entirely random.
I planned a trip next week for 3 weeks, but now I have to move it back until my order comes (need it for photography and to record music). I won't say I'm cancelling my order, but I am soooooo worried that there will be a PPC 970 laptop within 6 months, and that will really crush me. My Yosemite is chugging along, it can't record music via USB, and iPhoto is nearly unusable... Let's not even get into managing my collection of 5000 albums in iTunes.
Ok, that's enough bitching for my first post. I've browsed there boards for many many months, and finally had to sign up to vent. Anyone else feeling my angst?

listen
i feel for ya man i really do
but ya were right
i'd be hard pressed to find anyone who needs this laptop more then me.

i've been waiting since feb. 13th to be able to play RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN and Medal of Honor - AA and Spearhead. I need the comp to surf the net, and make peecee users extremly jelous at starbucks and other public places. Don't even get me started on the fact that i've put of work since feb. in anticipation that i could do it faster on the 17" PB. :D resulting in me probably going to fail.

so if anyone else thinks they have more reason to want their laptop...or more reason to be upset with apple..then please...feel free to share.

17" PB

I have been a Mac user since 1985. I am waiting "realtively" patiently for my new PB. I thought last nighty "am I crazy, maybe I could get a PC laptop just like the 17" Well I'm here to tell you, you can't. I know it is like heresy to go to the dark side but my organization uses windows and I thought maybe I could be happy with a P.C. laptop. Well I'm staying with the 17, assuming it actually ships to me sometime before I need to wear glasses so thick I can't read the print. Keep up the faith, it will come.

Hmn

I dunno HBK, after reading your post I've decided that I need it more. All of my income is based on my computer work, from music to photography... Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor vs. Photoshop and and ProTools... hmn. Therefore, I think you should call Apple and have them forward me your delivery. I tried, but they didn't seem to want to cooperate.

Just ordered a sleeve and bag from Timbuk2.com, delivery in 10-14 days... If they arrive before the laptop, I'm gonna be quite upset.

*sigh*

Sincere -

My Brenthaven bag arrived 1 month ago. I spent the last month PRETENDING i have a powerbook/mac. Not only was it bad enough that I didnt have a computer to put in the bag, when I tried to show off OSX on my imaginary 17" PB, my gf threatened to dump me. For the sake of my relationship i need that computer. :|

Hey iJon or anyone else who got their shipping notification last saturday. I was wondering how long it took it to go from taiwan to wherever you are. I got my notofication today like 4 am. I was wondering whether I could expect it monday or tuesday. I had the 2 buisness day shipping option. PLEASE TELL....it seems harder waiting now, knowing that its on the way

Doood,

You think thats bad. I ordered mine on Dec 9th, along with an Ipod. The Ipod came last month finally, but I havent even heard a peep about my 17 yet

I Think we have a winner...

iJon please stand up and take a bow, as it seems your post is the leading thread for posts with 317 and climbing and 17323 views to date (or time). Let's give iJon a round of applause for an outstanding thread *clapping*... *being deafened by grouppies behind me clapping louder and screaming out*, "iJon, iJON". Indeed a great post. I hope yur enjoying that machine as I'm missing what I don't have...:(

Peace.

Shipping time

I also had 2-day shipping option and got my notification at 4 am on a saturday.

My powerbook arrived on a Wednesday. However - there was a delay (see page 2 of this thread I think) in Indianapolis. So if yours can miss this delay, you might see it Tuesday.

For those still waiting, I'm not going to tell you to quit your kvetching. But when your machine arrives you'll understand that it really doesn't matter. The wait is worth it. Let me repeat - the wait is worth it.

If you haven't bought a new mac in a couple of years or more - the wait is completely inconsequential. I would have waited 3x as long and been completely happy. I upgraded from a Pismo. If you have a DP 1.42 MDD sitting on your desk - the wait will be much less worth it.

When you get your machine - you'll understand.

My web site is still acting funky so I can't post the screen grab yet. But think of it this way - the first time I opened my favorite pallete based programs (photoshop, flash etc) the pallets on the right hand side defaulted to just right of hte middle of the screen. It made me chuckle. The extra screen real estate is great.

If you cancel and buy a 15, you will regret it. Consider yourself warned.

In other news the machine finally got hot underneath. I was folding and using FCE for a couple of hours and it got pretty warm - uncomfortably so on bare skin.

Placement of the USB port on the right kinda bugs me a bit. It gets in the way of my external mouse movement in limited space areas.

However, I have a PowerMate and it fits perfectly on the 'extra' space to the left of the trackpad and looks even more stunning.

I know that the wait is difficult, and it's easy to be annoyed with Apple's biz practices, but it's worth the wait.

Cheers

has anyone managed to test out how this beauty burns? if someone has the time can you please give me a real life stat on how long it took you to burn a dvd and how long it took you to burn a cd?

My letter to Apple

I decided that complaining here will do no good, so I decided to email Apple's orders department. If the letter itself has no impact, I hope someone at least gets a chuckle out of it.

Dear Apple,

You've pushed back my ship date! Why? I know for a fact other BTO models
have been shipped that ordered after my date. This makes me salty, and I try
to maintain a low sodium diet. I ordered at 15" model in December after 4
years with my B&W G3 (The years since OS X arrived have been painful). December is
long gone. I was excited to see the 17" and switched to that... 7-10 weeks?
That sucked.
Also on the list of possible sucking would be a new laptop released perhaps
weeks after I get mine. Please do not do this, it might make me cry. And if
there's a PPC 970 laptop released before the end of the year, I will be quite the
saltine cracka... I have waited long for the best possible laptop, and I
need it now.
Tuesday I get my wisdom teeth pulled. I scheduled this a month ahead of time
based on my 17" ship date (which should have arrived by Tues), hoping to
bring some joy to my pain. Now I have to sit around for 2 days with a mouth
full of gauze and stare blankly at my lap (no top). I also planned a road
trip after my mouth was functional again, but I cannot go until the laptop
arrives as I need it for photography and work while on the road. In
addition, I do not have a girlfriend and was hoping the 17" could help me to
get one. This is indeed a priority. Please, consider my pains; ship my
laptop upon reading this email. Regardless of your decision, I remain a
loyal Apple customer. Oh, throw in a free iPod or something cool, and we'll
call it even. Thanks.

After rereading this, I can't believe I even wrote it, but figure I might as well share... I think we should all write similar letters... Or at least those of us still waiting... In the cold... All alone... Hungry... Waiting...

Still I wait.

that is very funny. Good luck in getting your top.

I just read something at http://www.powerbookcentral.com/ which is disturbing, but it seems like the threads around the web seem to corroborate this:

"...Somebody told me that Apple asks resellers for a list of their back or pre-orders, supposedly in order to expedite shipping, but never fulfills these numbers My source, who will remain nameless, believes that this is part of an ongoing plot to pull customers to the Apple Stores."

Is Apple up to more deceptive games? Is Apple screwing its resellers like it did the clone makers?

Saturday night I walked into the Apple store in MD and pulled out a couple twenties and said I' ll take a 17 inch powerbook. (kidding of course, never thought that had any in stock).

Well, they had two in stock ready to sell. I asked if their was a waiting list and the salesman said not anymore. I was really tempted to pull out the CC and say "ring that mf'er up". It is really stunning but if I hadn't already purchased an iBook, it would have been mine.

Sincere -

I dont like salt either my friend, but a spoon full of sugar helps the waiting go fast...no wait..it helps the medecine go down...oh my bad. Try alcohol. That always helps the waiting go fast...that and crack. :) hope i helped!

ok hello everybody out there whos ordered a PB 17"er!

Must admit thanks i jon for hosting this massive room here, must be a big house you got here hehe! :) anyway getting to the point i have also ordered a powerbook G4 17 inch but not just one but three! yes three, you would think that they would put me early in the list when u order on the 3rd of jan? :D but oh no 3rd in the list. yes 3rd not bad id say but today is he 24th and i got this message in my e mail thinking woohoo they sent me a mail confirmation.!! i hope this helps the stress in the room and ease the pain to others.....:(

Hi Patrick,

We do not give shipping dates out, as Apple do not supply them at all. We
can only give estimates, based on build times plus shipping, which with the
PowerBooks coming from China adds 10 days to build time. You are 4th in our
list of people wanting the new 17", so you should get one from the second
shipment coming in.

Our first shipment is expected this week, but only likely to be 2 laptops.
We will then possibly, although not definitely, get two more next week. The
shipping times have changed as Apple are apparently struggling to get Super
Drives.

If AppleCentre Warrington have an expected delivery date for all of the 17"
PowerBooks, then they have an advantage over everyone else in the
world...including Apple.

Please call or reply if I can help with anything else.
