OK, on the phone to apple care - told me to hold down power and turn it off - restarting.


OK - ran disk repair, everything is OK, restarting again. Tech support guy "Joe" was very kind and helpful.

Wow it's a fast restart.

Hrm. I have to use IE to go get XBench...

OK, well that's it I guess. It's a sexy beast! Pictures on the way and an XBench score as well.

why is everyone getting theirs, and I haven't gotten mine yet? I ordered mine on the 8th of Janurary, and I didn't add anything... it was the stock powerbook! I want it now!!, come on, where are these pics that you guys are talking about...? I wanna see 'em!!

Pictures - I started to color balance etc and gave up. Some are blurry - sorry.

This thing is GREAT. I don't own Quake so don't ask. :)

I ordered mine on 7 Jan at 11:30 - so I'd expect jan 8 orders to be soon.

It's quick. I'm at work so it's sitting here folding away until I can do anything else with it.

edit: no amount of pictures can tell you how cool this thing is. You just have to have it.

now when it finally comes, should I charge it right away like you have to do with a portable phone, or can i use it right away?
 
battery

Actually the first thing I saw in the 'getting started' book had to do with the battery.

Yes, it says to charge it fully - run it all the way down - and then you're good.

Also, it says that you can swap batteries in sleep mode. This is contrary to previous reports (including myself quoting those reports to others who have asked the question).

This is my first post with my new powerbook!

Re: heat - I've been folding with it (read lots of processor time) for over an hour and it's 25% (estimate) cooler than my pismo. It's not uncomfortable at all. BTW that's all underneath the machine. The top side is nice and chilly.

Let us know when the fan turns on...I might be leaving my computer on 24/7 to fold, and I want to know if the fan will be annoying.

You can barely hear the fan. It's VERY quiet.

Another interesting note. After running software update my SuperDrive quit working - it wouldn't accept any media.

Zapped the p-ram (thanks to applecare) and it worked just fine again.

I think I'll be purchasing the extended appleCare for sure.
 
the fans are very quiet, i can barely hear it. our 2nd one just came intoday.

its great to see every1 putting pics up, i finally know what im waiting for. my date is on before 4/25 with 4/2 being the earliest i can get it according the apple store guy i asked back in feb. but this info and stuff should hold me for another 2 weeks

so what software does it come with?
can anyone tell me how long the battery life is in real life conditions? i mean...if your not using it to burn dvds or play games..like just for powerpoint or word, will it break 3 hours on a full charge?

also whats this I hear about the superdrive dying after the update? how was this solved? i know some1 said they zapped the pram, but being a new mac user, well i will be a new mac user when my 17"gets here, what the heck does zap the pram mean?

can some1 run a movie on it and tell me how it looks? i mean, is the screen as stunning as it looks on the ads?

you know, i never knew the apple logo glowed until i saw an ibook today :D what a pleasent surpris

if you were trying to mak eme cry....you've succeeded. The drama, the suspense...this movie had it all...and what a great soundtrack...all in all, an epic for the ages.

perhaps you would find time to do a sequal? for us who are powerbook-less? with your francis ford copla style im sure you can out-do the first...

HBK, did you order yours back in Feb and have a 4/25 arrival date?! I ordered mine last week and mine is scheduled to arrive on or before 4/18. :confused:

i ordered mine feb 10th i believe
and have an on before of 4/25

but then again mine wasnt stock
i ordered it with the gb of ram

i called the guy today and he said theres a 90% chance id see it in the first week of april. im not a gambling man, but i think thems pretty good odds
 
damn, its movies like that that make me proud to be a mac user. how many people dell people make movies about their laptops. it also found out something else that made me happy. a person came into the store and said was comparing prices with a gateway and she told me thse prices have been marked down because the local gateway store is closing. what a glorious day. chikfila has the cow all to them selves now.

Hello Mac community, I couldn't stay in silence any longer. Maclicious, kudos to that "rough" movie. I have been having a breathtaking time watching all of you get your machines, describing the first emotions like Chuck and his new born Chloe (she a beauty chuck, congrats again;) ). HBK has amused me much, I only say this because I feel the same way. I have spent hours upon hours looking for the newest post and the new discoveries with the 17"er. I have never owned a MAC and have always been using PEECEE. No fun whatsoever. I finally decided to make the plunge when they introduced the 15"TiBook 1Ghz, but by the next following week they introduced the 17". I had a major rise in my Levi's. WOOOOW!!:eek: So I immediately had the first order cancelled to reorder the 17". The other reason for coming out of the wood works is because I remember someone stating that those who are getting any machines through any sort of "Employee Discount" would inevitably be getting there's dead last. Even worst that they were not shipping in heavy quantities. It really left a bad taste in my mouth. Delayed shipment and last person to probably get a machine. It made me think that I should have stuck with the original order. So I figured now I would never get one until end of April maybe May:( . Well to my surprise I got "My special" email stating that there is a Powerbook awaiting to be picked up at the warehouse here in Toronto. Ummmm I'm not sure which machine to be it will be to be honest, but I guess I shall find out soon. I have sung praises about these laptops and Apples ability to be so easy to learn and use, that not having a machine to prove it made me look....well, silly, to say the least. Well I wanted to share this only wih those who would undertsand. Sorry about the long post. I will let you know what the outcome is. Enjoy your machines for the ones who have recieved it and for thos ewho don't have their's yet (hopefully) the wait won't be too long.
