I am debating on whether this'll be my future college machine (yes I know, it's a 17", a beast).

Maybe a good look at the ports and the back?

Otherwise, what an amazing machine you have there! I'm sure you'll cherish and love the thing for a very long time. :)

I'm not sure if I missed it, but did your MBP not come in a plastic sleeve?
It looked like you just pulled it out and opened the lid?

I will be using mine for college. The 13" MB is too small (and has a bad screen), and the MBA is amazingly cool, but low on connectivity. The 15" MBP is great, but the 8-hour battery, HD screen, extra USB port, and Matte option are too good to pass up. Plus, the 17" is really not at all much bigger than the 15".

I know these are older models, but you get the point:

Ah, I thought so. Yes, the first time turning it on is a one time feeling. I wonder if you can even duplicate that? Maybe by re-installing OSX?

I disagree on the packaging. I liked the previous-gen's soft-fabric sleeve that it was wrapped in. Had the same form as the plastic one, but it was soft.
I really don't like how they're skimping on the factory packaging now. First they cut out the remote control inclusion, (which is now $20) now they don't even include the mini-dvi adapter ($29 for that thing now). Stop jacking the price and removing items Apple!

The 8 hour battery life will be amazing, I know!

Well, just turned in some scholarship forms. Maybe enough money can go for one of these 17" babies! :D

I've decided to go Pro for a while now simply because the screen size will be almost necessary for what I'll be doing (multiple track editing with instruments, primarily that and music videos). The graphics will be a charm.

Anyways, thanks for reassuring me you'll be using a beast 17" for school. By the looks at your campus, are there many 17" users out there?

Awesome thanks

Great video thanks!

The screen looks awesome and the black bezel looks way better when it's not as wide. The matte looks sweet as well. Makes me wish I would have waited..

Beautiful !

Thanks for pointing out in the video info that the gloss although appears to be extreme, that it's not that bad while using it. Congrats on an awesome looking machine, i still feel the need for matte.

If case someone's interested, in terms of length and width:

The 13" MacBook hasn't really changed.
The 15" MBP has actually gotten slightly bigger.
The 17" MBP hasn't changed much.

So when you look at the photo, the difference between the 15" and 17" MBP has gotten a bit smaller.

I just got mine this morning, god is it gorgeous! Everything about it, the size, weight, sleek look and huge as lcd is perfect. I just installed the seagate 500GB 7200 and it's quite as a mouse. As far as glossy you don't notice anything if you're using the computer because you eyes are focused on the object on the screen. I'm in an office with full bright overhear lights and it looks great.

^^awesome. seems like a lot of people will have them by monday!

anyone who has one as of now- do your fans spin above 2000? mine have not even with my cpu at 80c when doing video

just an update- it takes about 4 hours and 20 min from a 100% dead battery to charge fully.

EDIT: my battery life is also 97% .... gr

Great video!
Is American Blinker your band? I made a comment asking about where I can download their music. It's really good.

it is my music, i play everything in the studio!

i have a CD out and whatnot, i should put it up on itunes!

i tell you i'm having so much fun playing with this computer!!

A salute you my friend. I'm telling ya, if you put it on iTunes, I'd buy it. I can't stop listening to the music on your myspace. ;)
Congrats on the MBP.

ha i shall get on that! i hear the itunes is a long process, but oh well!

on another note, the one thing that drives me nuts is the amount of dust that sticks to the screen, and smudges, i think its from the keyboard touching maybe

it's a minor picky thing, especially since i keep this house so clean!

Just kidding

ha i'm not worried about any comments made about how i dress, my life is pretty good =)

however i am glad you the hoodie

Just very jealous, can't wait till I get mine, and btw according to my wife I don't have any dress sense either.

Also, in the picture from top to bottom:

A 12" iBook
A 15" MacBook Pro
A 17" PowerBook.

The 12" iBook is WAY too thick to be a MacBook, it also has a latch. It's a G4 because of its slot loading DVD drive.

The 15" MacBook Pro could be any but the most recent Unibody.

The 17" PowerBook can be told by its lack of IR interface for the remote. Also, it has an S-Video port on the side.

Yes. I am that nerdy.

How is the 7200 RPM drives? Are they vibrating as much as the 15" ones? I have seen complaints about the 7200 RPM drivers cause way to much vibration.

mine does not vibrate at all, or i don't notice it. this thing is very quiet too. my fans never go above like 2010 on either own however. even when the cpu is a 80c. but smc fan control does the trick, and my computer runs so cool
