Awesome! Anybody on here got one yet - it'd be lurvely to see some photos and see if they get quite so toasty as the 15's!

No vapor for you!

I'm curious whether they have a thinner body/thicker lid compared to the old 17". The old 17" body seemed insanely thin already, but the total thickness remains 1" and I thought the lid had to be thicker for the iSight.

My PowerBook sold on eBay on Friday and I got notification that my MacBook Pro is shipping today. Perfect timing

I can't wait to read the reviews.

Normally I just buy the latest and greatest 17" PB as soon as it is announced.

But given the enormous quality issues Apple has been having of late, especially with the MacBook Pros, I've decided to wait this out.

Maybe I'll skip a generation until next year accordingly.

But for those buying now, I really hope they get a beautiful and Apple-quality Mac.

Heh, mine says ships May 10th, delivered May 17th--how does the math on that work out?

At least in CA Apple's shipping estimates are usually quite high, though, so I expect if it does actually ship on the 10th I'll have it on Friday. Sure hoping they make that ship date, though--I REALLY need the thing.

Feel like I'm playing with fire getting a first-run major product revision from Apple, but then I got a first-gen G5 tower right after they came out and with the exception of the Radeon 9800 failing (under AppleCare, thank God), it's been a trooper.

As for the 17" MBP, I came into sudden need of a laptop due to illness, and was wanting to get acquainted with an Intel Mac for experience purposes anyway, so I'm taking the risk (not to mention the huge deal they are in comparison to the 15" at this point). Figure they probaby got the major kinks worked out messing around with the 15" models, so the 17" will, with any luck, be a little more stable. We'll see, though, and hello, AppleCare if they didn't.

Mine has shipped

My new 17" has shipped (stock configuration)...expected delivery Wednesday morning. Last FedEx scan showed it in Alaska already (from China), so we'll see if they hit the mark.

And just FYI, I spent the extra $18 for "2-day" shipping. Maybe I saved a day or two from the "free shipping" option, maybe not.

My 17" MacBook (custom configuration) is on the same shipment as yours. Mine says it actually left Alaska and is due to arrive here (Oregon) Wednesday also.

I also spent the extra for 2-day shipping (I thought it was $15?) hoping it would get here a bit quicker.

My MacBook Pro had an estimated "ship by" date of the 8th May, and delivery of the 12th May. It was shipped out yesterday morning (6th), but still says delivery date of the 12th.

I hate the wait... it's so frustrating.

I need to know how it is! I'm on my third MBP now, and if the 17 has none of the 15 issues, I'm going for the full refund and going big.

With all the comments about the shortcomings of the 15" MBP I was going to wait for rev B, but a funny thing happened when the 17" was announced. Before I knew what I was doing I'd gone and bought the thing. Got dispatch notification for mine yesterday too, though delivery date is quoted as on or before May 17. Being as that's a whole 10 days away I hope it doesn't take quite that long, though judging by other posts perhaps there's some sort of obligatory European tour beforehand? Not sure I can stand the excitement. Having run a Mac and PC in tandem for the last 2 years, I am so ready to ditch PCs for good (after 23 years of thinking a computer is just a tool and nothing to get excited about ...)

Meanwhile I've been taking a good look at a neighbour's 15" MBP. It certainly runs warm but can't hold a candle to this friggin' Toshiba of mine which regularly passes out from overheating despite being run sitting up on stilts and getting Dysoned once a week. No whine on his one. Mind, having gotten used to fans running full whack 24/7 for the last year of the Toshiba's 2-year life not sure as I'd notice anyway. Reading these forums I can't help but think that some of you guys just don't know when you're well off.

Damn TNT... they've put the delivery estimate back from the 12th to the 15th.

No MBP to play with over the weekend :(

It has arrived! Now if I can just find my digital camera. (Or maybe a mirror? Built-in camera is kind of creepy.)

Running cool in my lap, guess I need to find a stress test... ;)

Same with mine. Shipped on the 6th rather than the 8th. Apple said when I ordered it it would be delivered on or before the 12th, now it's saying the 15th
