Hmmmm that would be interesting. I wonder what kind of graphics the 17" would support if they decide to refresh it. This could be some very good news if its true. A retina version would be astounding though

I'll never say never, but I'd be surprised.
If the rumor pans out,it will make a number of MR members very happy :p

17" rMBP with 4K display would be awesome

I've never owned a 17" but I have a feeling I'll love it. Actually, I was saving up for a maxed out 17" before it was phased out. I really do hope they'll bring it back! Multitasking on a 4k beast too would be *amazing*

Yes!

This is one of the happiest day of this fangurl's life + this week my husband was granted permanent residence and us being on the TEDx Talks stage performing together last month, anyways, YES, thank you for making my day OP - this is the greatest news in a long, long time, I'm almost crying.

How fun!

^_^
Have an awesome day everyone!

Neither article has a link to a source (both appear to quote Stabley Times, but I can't find any similar article on that site). There is no news, no leak, its not even an 'expert opinion', merely a speculation, if at all.

P.S. I have nothing agains 17" model per se, I just ask of people to be at least slightly critical when they read stuff on internet.

I hope this happens I would kill to get a 17" with Retina display.

I have a feeling that if this does happen, the premium on the 17 inch model will be through the roof. The original 17 inch did not do so well which is why apple phased them out, so with the retina - they'd have to make it worthwhile.

It is all about more options!

This company is good at giving people a whole lot of options so why not more options in screen size and form factors, colors and even more more more! They are successful and super talented, they wont hold back, if only to surprise us later on with something that melts our faces off, like the 17"MBP's "second coming" YES I loved reading his articles so much because it gave me a lot of affirmation for my passions in creativity to be expressed on a much larger notebook that I feel my content wraps around me. Wow! Nothing like a good article like this to bring good vibes in my day!

We dont have to be critical, we can appreciate the rumor without taking it as 100% truth :p We think it would be nice, but no one is really expecting it

I can almost see this happening:

15" retina goes Iris Pro and drops the dedicated GPU.

17" retina MBP with 3840x2400 (4k) screen is introduced with the higher clock speed Haswell CPUs with HD 4600 graphics, plus a dedicated GPU. Still lighter than the 15" cMBP because of the thinner design, no optical drive, etc.

If they bring out a rMBP 17" with 4K display, I'd pay $4K for the base model.

Seriously.

This MR member especially, I could sell my MP and my MBP and condense to a single portable I actually like not that my work has been pared down do editing "pretty" pictures and interviews are down to 10 Minutes.

I like this - I really like this.

This fangurl is really liking the way you are putting this, like butter on English muffins, thank you!

Even if that does happen, as unlikely as it is, be prepared for a pretty high starting price on the world's first 4k laptop.

I highly doubt it. This is the first we have heard about this, and it's not backed up by any real soon. Apple got rid of the 17-inch for a reason.

Reminder to every nay sayers out here.

In 2009's WWDC Apple announced the unibody 17"MBP yes? They mentioned on stage that 2008 was a great year for Apple, they had their MBA and the introduction of the unibody design craze for the 13 and 15 inchers. Everyone raved about it, so Apple naturally brought back the 17"MBP in their 2009 WWDC with the crazed unibody design and everyone wigged out LOVED it.

Why wouldn't Apple do this now that the crazed 'retina' technology has been so raved about till now, late 2013 MBP line is looking promising and I would pay up to 5000 dollars in cash for this mega workhorse happily.

This fangurl is completely giddy right now I can't even tell you!

Seen this video clip, it is like Apple has a repeat history trend button in the way they re-release 17"MBPs:

The MBP line just isn't complete without the great 17"MBP so it really is the perfect timing.

Actually, this coupled with some retina display airs or the iPad mini would really bring back the raving about retina screens. Maybe 2014 will be the year?
