Not sure what it's doing but Safari is eating my battery and maybe more data. Anytime I open Safari, it will start network activity. Nothing is running in the background. Just by typing this, it has gone down 3%.

I already reset the network settings. No different with LTE or WiFi.

Last thing is a complete restore which I don't want to bother with.

*update* 10/20

I updated to 8.1 and it's still present.

I get the same thing. It stops when I hit the home button, get Safari out of memory, then reopen it. PITA

yea, it actually stops when I open any application and its done loading. it seems like Safari is trying to load something and it doesn't finish and just keeps going?

Same issue I face here...still isn't fixed in beta 1

Same issue, I've noticed it's happening when you highlight a word or something. - ios 8.0.2

Same issue here. Hard reset only fixes it temporarily.

My bro had this, but on the home screen, not just safari. Some sort of bug was eating 5GB of mobile data a day. :D

I haven't had that happen on iOS 8 or my iPhone 6. it did happen on iOS 7 and my iPhone 5. it was frustrating but a hard reset fixed it.

we shouldn't have to do that though.

I have the same thing happen on my iphone 6. Had it occasionally on the iphone 5 ios 6/7 but have noticed it more on this ios 8 safari. I don't understand what it is doing. I have also done the hard reset, reset all network settings but it comes back in a day or so. Very random though.

Tried turning off javascript in safari, but that didn't seem to help much either. Its bad enough I have thought of switching browsers but then lose some of ios functionality.

I get this also on my 6 plus.

Any body confirm it is actually eating data? Or is it just a rogue spinning wheel?

330MB used on Safari in 2 days. I don't think it's THAT bad being it doesn't do it all the time I connect to safari. it happens randomly but still...it shouldn't do it.

I have this happen on my iPhone 6 and iPad air. I just assumed it is some broken ad related redirect, does piss me off though.

I am having the same issue on iPhone 6 ios 8.0.2. Hard reset fixed it for me. Very very annoying.

I don't think its worth resetting constantly. It happens all the time. I was hoping it was a rogue spinner. But if Safari is constantly siphoning data that is really bad.

ok so i just experienced it with any app opening. twitter, safari, Facebook, instagram, mail.

Same here. Just more ios8 garbage. Along with difficulty playing embedded videos, the stupid auto-hide tab bar, occasional reboots, the photos mess, icloud mess, etc.

Honestly, heads should roll.

add another random bug, my alarm goes off this morning and I slide to stop and it restarts itself??

My 6 plus just started doing this last night. I don't get why it started happening out of nowhere.

I think it's just the code for the animation getting "stuck" running.

I can close ALL tabs and it still spins. Only by killing Safari in the multitasking view does it stop.

I wouldn't sweat it; it seems like a cosmetic issue and I doubt it uses much CPU or data.

but when the battery % drops pretty fast while having your favorites page open and nothing else going on in the background, something is wrong.

I just checked using System Monitor, and there is no appreciable use of the network or CPU when this is going on.

The battery dropping is probably simply due to the phone being awake with the screen on. How bright do you have your screen set?

auto brightness and it was about half. nothing going on in the background.
