My fee ISN'T waived and our bill is over $240 a month and there's 5 lines on our plan. Lol.

I'm wondering if they're waiving the fee for the people who legitimately qualify for the upgrade but are not waivign for people who wouldn't have qualified until 11/2010 but got bumped up by AT&T.

Ozzyman, did you legitimately qualify for an upgrade (you bought your last iPhone 16-18 months ago), or were you one of the many people that were bumped up.

Why must they have a reason? Corporations add fees all the time, for no other reason then they can. That's not a fail, that's life.

The same question was asked about the tethering charge especially given the fact that the tethering charge does not alter the bandwidth allowance beyond 3gb. They're charging that fee because they can. They're charging the 18 dollar fee because they can.

The "fail" part is the fact that they're charging the fee to some people and not charging others. At least be consistent. Oh, and my acct has 4 people on it and runs close to $300 a month, and I'm being charged the $18 fee.

Agreed. It would be nice if at&t came out and gave specific criteria for who is eligible for early upgrades and waived activation fee.

It's not how much the entire plan costs, it's how much you spend on the line you are upgrading.

When I check my account, I see this $18 eligibility, but no specifics.

What phone am I being offered here? iPhone 4 for $18 + 2yr? Or are they trying to unload a 3GS on me?

The website's literature/upgrade section of the account is very sparse.

I'd just like to see it in black and white before I "upgrade" 3 iPhones.

It is applicable to the iPhone 4 but won't show up as an option until the 15th.

Lovely.

Thanks for the response by the way. One more question for you, if you feel like answering another, what is this going to run me in total?

$18 per phone, new 2year lease on my soul and what? Another $199 per iPhone 4?

I just checked my upgrade status online. It is odd, but for most equipment the activation fee is waived, but not for the iPhone. Love for someone to explain how that works.

It's been addressed, and questioned, in other threads, but many of us are receiving messages, when dialing *639# that say the $18 upgrade fee is waived, yet others are receiving message saying they must pay the $18 fee.

In both cases, they are people who qualify for upgrade.

Does anybody know why?

The $18 doesn't mean a lot to me...but I'm happy I'm able to save it...but don't know how they are making these decisions.

Are you asking why? Let's see...
I got mine waived, so problem solved. Oh, and it is not just one. I got all of my lines waived. We live in a country that does not know the meaning of savings. The banks and greedy cooperations will find an excuse to charge a fee to every single one of their customers. You can call it as appreciation fee or robbery fee. Call it whatever you like. With that being said, only those of us who are willing to fight for is going to get what they want. If you just want to be lazy and take no actions, then you deserve to pay 18 dollars.

........

It says, you cannot apply your 50 dollars credit on your next purchase on device except iphone. Your upgrade fee will be waived no matter what.

Yes...BUT...call them up and try to get the $18 waived. Mine was already waived when I dialed *639# but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who gets the $18 fee waived and who does not. It is not based on cost of plan, or upgrade eligibility status.

Then you are looking at a 2 year contract...and the cost of each iPhone...either $199 for the 16GB or $299 for the 32GB.

Of course, you should be able to upgrade again in 18 months!
