iOS 8.4 Beta 1: Changes and Bug Fixes

iOS 8.4 beta 1 was released at around 6:00pm EST on April 13th.

Changes

Redesigned Music app:
- All-New Design. Music app has a beautiful new design that makes exploring your music collection easier and more fun. Personalize playlists by adding your own image and description. Enjoy stunning pictures of your favorite artists in the Artists view. Start playing an album right from the album list. The music you love is never more than a tap away.

- Recently Added. Albums and playlists you’ve recently added are now at the top of your library, making it effortless to find something new to play. Simply tap play on the artwork to listen.

- Streamlined iTunes Radio. Discovering music with iTunes Radio is easier than ever. You can now quickly return to your favorite stations in Recently Played. Choose from a selection of hand-curated stations in Featured Stations, or start a new one from your favorite artist or song.

- New MiniPlayer. With the new MiniPlayer, you can see what’s playing and control playback while browsing your music collection. To open Now Playing, just tap on the MiniPlayer.

- Improved Now Playing. Now Playing has a stunning new design that showcases your album artwork the way it was meant to be. In addition, you can begin wirelessly streaming your music using AirPlay without leaving Now Playing.

- Up Next. It’s now simple to find out which songs from your library will play next — just tap the Up Next icon in Now Playing. You can even reorder, add, or skip songs whenever you like.

- Global Search. You can now search from anywhere in the Music app — just tap the magnifying glass. Search results are conveniently organized to help you quickly find that perfect song. You can even start an iTunes Radio station right from Search.

CarPlay:
- CarPlay now has support for iBooks Audiobooks.


Bug Fixes

- In-app purchases now work (beta 2 fix).

Bugs

- Music: Music app still broken where songs are tagged incorrectly & some albums were missing album covers.

- Setting a playlist to 'Shuffle' may cause a track to suddenly end and will change to another track partway through.

- AirPlay window on iPad can still be extremely small http://imgur.com/Uokghck

- Battery bug still present: 61-59% and all others.

Known Issues

- AppStore: Search is not available on iPad.

- Using Siri to control iTunes Radio does not work in this seed.

- Home Sharing and Genius Mixes are not currently available.

- AirPlay streaming does not work.

- Stability issues when using Up Next or iTunes Radio.

- iTunes Radio stations may not start playback when attempting to play from Recently Played.

- It’s not possible to start a station from a song in Now Playing.

- Station sharing for iTunes Radio is not available.

- The iTunes Radio tab may unexpectedly appear within Search, even if iTunes Radio is not available in your country.

- It’s not possible to add an entire album or artist to a playlist at once.

- Music app may unexpectedly quit when deleting a playlist or rotating the device to landscape orientation.

- Music app may forget it’s place when you go to the Home Screen and come back.

- It’s not possible to view song lyrics.

- If your device loses and regains a network connection (including turning Airplane Mode on and off), playback may stop working. If songs repeatedly fail to play, please Force Quit the Music app.

They still haven't addressed the broken music app issue / bug where songs are tagged incorrectly & some albums were missing album covers.
 
Wonder if it's stable I would like to try it but idk how I feel about installing beta 1 on my phone. And I doubt they'll make a public beta.

I feel the same way, that why I'm going to install the beta on my iPad. That way if it doesn't work in some way it's not as big of a deal. :)
 
Does the music app have an option to sort album artist by year instead of title?
 
Can anyone that has the beta and Carplay try this out? Curious if the music app is functional via Carplay.

Sounds like 8.4 is really gearing up for a streaming service integrated...

I know it says you can use Siri with iTunes Radio, but can you use Siri with the music app in general? I'm wondering (probably won't be until a couple more versions) if you'll be able add a song 'up next' with Siri.

I was hoping to see some changes with the display of artist/album information. I mount my phone high on my windshield by the mirror when I'm driving and it's bothersome to have to squint and lean forward to see what's playing (this applies to iTunes Radio since I'm obviously going to recognize my own music).
 
Hmm, don't know if this is intentional or a bug but since audiobooks have moved to iBooks it is no longer possible to listen and read eBooks at the same time. I know at least one person who will not be happy with this change.

Oh and they finally got rid of that neutered 'Cover Flow' that was introduced in iOS 7. Pointless then, pointless now. Glad its gone as it got annoying when I had my 6 Plus in landscape mode. Now they just need to redo the app for the 6 Pluses landscape mode.

EDIT: Still does that thing where it thinks its reached the end of a song partway through and changes to the next song. A bug that has belonged since 8.0.
 
A few questions for those using the new Music app:

1. During one of the iOS 8 releases, a bug was introduced that has made it impossible to change the year of an album. If you change the year of an album in iTunes, it will not sync (or propagate if you're using iTunes Match) over to the Music app. Has this been fixed?

2. The "sort album" tags also have not worked in the Music app since iOS 7.1, preventing users from sorting their albums in any order that they want. Has this also been fixed?

3. Are there any settings, be it in the Music app or in Settings, that allow you to turn off "Recently Added"?
