Having had an EVO 4G for 29 days and now being back to the iPhone (albeit the iPhone 4 having upgraded from the 3Gs) it is a very familiar and comfortable feeling. Do I miss some Android features? Sure... Still, the iPhone just does its job more fluidly. I think people expect too much too quickly out of their technology. Any company can throw out new features with little forethought, but from 26 years of Apple use, I can say they appear to be very deliberate in what they do. Just as they were deliberate in implementing a functional, battery-sparing multitasking system, I am certain they're working on a better notification system. Likewise, I am certain much more is in the pipeline ready to be released when it is perfected.

Along the same lines, the standard desktop interface hasn't really changed significantly since the beginnings in the early 80s.

Give the EVO a try on Sprint's guarantee that you can return it in 30 days and pay nothing. What do you have to lose? Then again, you may just come back.

When people say things like the UI is old and boring, I speculate that they must be young.

The UI is there to interface with the actual programs you use. it is not there to make you excited and happy. It serves a purpose to interface you with the world opened by the iPhone.

Changing it up for just the sake of changing it up would be monumentally dumb. As you grow older you learn to appreciate knowing how things work and where to go to make them work is worth a lot more than potentially being bored of looking at the same UI for , *gasp*, 2 years.

I agree he's got to be young. In that case I say a ipod touch is better suited for kids, afterall you arent spending as much nor putting it to its full use.

The interface has been the same since 2007. I've already gotten tired of the same over-used, glossy, web 2.0 effects.

A better notification system would be a great start.

As a musician, this reminds me of people buying a new guitar and then being surprised when it doesn't make their playing any better. :)
