Tisk tisk, I pray that I will be able to walk into Apple on July 11th (or earlier, haha yeah right) and buy my iPhone 3G for $299 plus tax.

It's a shame that Apple/AT&T can't get some things right...

I called apple yesterday. I asked specifically if i could walk in and buy the 16gb for 299 plus tax only reguardless of me being eligible for upgrade or not. He answered yes. I then asked if AT&T requires a new contract in order to activate. He said He didnt know.

The only thing I cared about was walking out with the phone for 299 plus tax. The price for buying will not change under any circumstances from here to 7/11 according to apple sales clerk.

AT&T Has No Idea What Is Going On!!!!

I just spoke with two AT&T Reps and one manager. One told me that if you are not upgrade eligible and are an existing AT&T customer, then you can't buy a 3G iphone!! This cannot be true! Also, regardleass if you have an iphone or not, it doesn't matter, if you are not upgrade eligible, you can't buy a 3G AT THE QUOTED PRICES...

Another employee told me that there will be a no commitment price and that you can stick with your original plan, $20 for unlimited data and 200 texts.

The manager was condescending and rude and was very defensive about the fact that they are waiting for apple tot ell them what to do...all of this is bs!!! All I want to know is if I will be able to buy a 3g or not...after one employee told me that I CAN'T buy one at all, that was my anger limit!!

As I never bought the first iphone, maybe it would answer a lot of our questions if someone were to explain how AT&T handled it the first time? I know that not everyone that bought an iphone last year was eligible for an upgrade either, so what did they do for those customers? Did they have to pay a higher price, did they just have to sign an extended contract? While anything is possible, I would hope that AT&T would handle this 2nd gen release the same way as the first.

Can anyone shed some light on how they handled the first release for non-eligible upgrade customers?

I wasn't upgrade eligible. I bought a 4GB iPhone for 400 (refurb) in September 07, plugged it in to my computer and started the $40voice + $20data that day and extended my contract by two years.

I kinda doubt this.

We all saw the AT&T memo, and while it says they haven't figured out the non-upgrade price, I highly doubt they WON'T let us buy one.

My guess, the AT&T people are just making this crap up.

The real details just need to come out asap!
