...unless you decide to add Windows or Android to your collection of devices, I guess, or enjoy the possibilities of making a manual backup that we have now with Dropbox.
You shouldn't treat Dropbox as a backup service, there is a reason 1Password creates a folder called "Backups" in the user's Library folder (or the Documents folder if you're on Windows), even if Dropbox sync is enabled.

That's because Dropbox is a sync service and not a backup service. Google "syncing is not backup" for more info

I've always been happy with my iPhone's and don't plan on switching to Android or Windows. Not my cup of tea.

Have just put 1Password on my Air, was only on iPads and IPhone before.

Found the IOS version very easy to set up and use. However, was surprised to find the OSX version difficult and confusing ...

It couldn't see my IOS version in Dropbox, so choosing the I Have Already Used 1password option wouldnt work and I had to set up separate account with different password. Now the IOS version is telling me content there isn't the same as in Dropbox, do I want to merge? The OS X version has nothing in it yet, so if IOS version merges with that won't this wipe everything I've put into IOS version?

I just want both versions to be the same and sync through Dropbox, so when i change anything in one, the other will change too, if it doesn't do this I will just trash the OSX version, which even at a discount still wasn't cheap. I already regret buying it.

What email did you use to send the request in to us? Please PM me and not post it here for privacy reasons. I'll try to get someone on it asap.

Contacting 1Password for support would be the most logical thing to do. They are the creators of the software after all and would be best to answer your questions.

Always contact us first if you can. I often direct people to our support anyway, we usually need a lot of information and we can't actively monitor this site as well as we do our own sites.

We're in the same boat, OP. I purchased the Mac version of 1Password, after finding the iOS version extremely useful. But due to some weird issues trying to sync with DropBox, I e-mailed the company yesterday. Haven't heard anything back yet but it is a weekend!

Same thing as the OP, PM me the email you used and I'll look it up and get someone it asap.

I have contacted the 1Password support team a couple of times and they are very prompt and helpful. Much better than a lot of other places.

We're currently a tad overwhelmed by the number of emails we have, but we're doing our best... it may take longer than normal right now.

When I set up 1password... I did it the opposite way. Mac OSX first... followed by IOS... and then followed by Windows. Possibly it was the order... but each time it immediately found the vault in Dropbox.

I expect that Kyle will pop in any time now. He actively monitors MR and has provided top quality support.

Hello! :)

When you purchase 1Password for OSX from the app store I believe there is an Apple imposed restriction regarding which dropbox folder your file is stored in. On my Mac the folder name is the obvious 1Password, and the only visible item in the folder is labeled 1Password.agilekeychain. Is the IOS 1Password file in that dropbox folder?

Yes, the current version has a restriction on the location. It needs to be:

/Users/<username>/Dropbox/

With the file in /Users/<username>/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain

This will be made a lot better in version 4 though, so we're definitely trying our best to make this easier for users.

Yup, don't use Dropbox as a backup. Those files are "live" as in, they are edited during use. Backups should be in an untouched area where you can rely on them being stable.

Very good advice. :)

You misunderstood me, I absolutely do not treat Dropbox as a backup service. I'm afraid to put anything even remotely important in Dropbox if I don't have a copy of it somewhere else.

Having 1Password in Dropbox makes it part of my normal backup routine, since the files are conveniently located in the file system. It feels safer to have incremental backups of the files that are actually used by the program (but not in use at the moment of course) than to rely only on the program making backups that I never verify actually work... I'm not worse off having two options instead of one if things go wrong.

Additionally - with Dropbox I can log in from any computer and save a copy of my 1Password database to that computer for safe keeping. As long as none of my 1Passwords are running anywhere or there are any pending uploads/downloads, of course...
