In case anyone is interested in an alternative, the application 'locko' is currently free for both Mac and iOS.
It is from the guys that make the excellent forklift app, binary nights.

There is iCloud and Dropbox syncing (should you need or want it) and it also has browser extensions.
It is not quite as polished as 1password, but you can't argue with the price.
No iPad app sadly, but you can use the iPhone version without too much trouble.

Worth checking out as it is free.

I’ll just use iCloud Keychain and save myself $36 a year.

MEMO TO ALL APP DEVELOPERS: I will never pay for a subscription, and if you ever change your model to a subscription one, I will stop using your app and recommend a different one to others.
iCloud Keychain doesn't save passwords for apps?

1Password does way more than just save passwords. It's also far easier to search for a password in the app too. You also don't have to get the subscription, they have a free one (that syncs), and you can also get it at a one time charge (does more than the free one). Oh, good luck using keychain across platform.

I just found out about and downloaded this week the free trial version of 1Password. I am enjoying it, but then I saw the subscription service, and I was like nope. Then I saw they still offer licensure, but at $65. I would be inclined to purchase if it was $1 per month like the other popular app or say $30-$40 for the one time licensure like it was before. Too bad I found out about 1Password too late. I would have bought the license if it wasn't $65, but I have no use for the windows bundle.

In my opinion, it is well worth the money. If you are patient, Agilebits has sales from time to time, thus saving you 20% (or more). I have seen it for $40 - 45.00 on sale before.

Thanks for the reply. It seems like a great app. How can I keep up with when they put it on sale? Do you know?

Monitor their website, social media addresses, as well as this forum. It was this forum that alerted me to the sale a few years ago when I made my purchase.

The subscription is only $36.00 a year, if that is more in line with what you are comfortable with. You could do the subscription and if you see a sale, you could take advantage of it, and subsequently cancel the subscription. Something to consider. ;)

I like 1password and have the family plan.. But you should really check out lastpass.
It's free for the basic version (which may be enough for you) or a dollar a month for the premium version.

The price is worth it IMO. It offers the security of unique passwords with the convenience of autofilling them all.

I use to like 1password but their latest version is horrible I prefer Roboform

Or you can use Lastpass for $12 per year

Shame it does a poorer job at filling than Lastpass which is free. Have both and Lastpass wins hands down for accuracy and one step filling. Couldn't care less if it looks a bit prettier when it can't do its job as well.

I've downloaded last pass and I'm going to look at the others listed on here to see which works for me. Thanks for the help. I never knew such apps existed until this week.
[doublepost=1483066703][/doublepost]Last pass I noticed said I was in trial mode and that it expired in February. I thought it was free, but I wouldn't mind spending $12 a year if I had to.

I agree. It's on sale often, and I've also seen it in app bundles, which ends up being an even better deal. But it's worth $65. It has become probably my single most indispensable app.

My company uses LastPass. Granted, I'm only using it on a Windows machine, but it absolutely blows chunks. Even 1Password's Windows app (which really needs work because it's definitely not as polished as the Mac version) is many times better than LastPass.

Absolutely. We've had subscriptions available for 6 months or so now... this is just one additional subscription option. We're still offering licenses as well, and for existing users who have no interest in changing what they're doing... there really is no change right now.

(...)

We plan to continue offering licenses for the foreseeable future, though I'm not sure it is fair to describe licensing as "one-time pricing." Upgrades are sold separately, so in that sense it isn't "one-time."

(...)

In short I don't see there being a roadblock on continued use of the licensed model any time soon, but folks should continue to expect to see a price tag for major upgrades when following that model (of course, they can continue to use the previous version if it still meets their needs).

People who already purchased the Mac app from the store are grandfathered in, and don't have to buy a subscription if they don't want to.

I don't think $36.00 a year (for a subscription) that covers all devices and platforms is too much.

I never trusted 1PW. Read the discussion at https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-2238-post-13402.html - the developers had to be clued in.

Also, their generated passwords are not truely random.

But at least the app looks great and has a lot of white space.

Edit: IMHO a TOTP generator within the same program (also on desktop) that keeps your password makes no sense either.

But what's the deal with the potential new buyers? How can they get the standalone app?

And $20 a year for duet display isn't much, right? And the $60 a year for Outbank (I don't know the exact numbers) isn't much, right? Add Netflix, Adobe, Apple Music/Spotify, Amazon Prime, Office 365 and you'll pay the price of an iPad Pro a year just to use these apps...

Developers (and people who work for companies like 1Password) have bills just like the rest of us.

In my opinion, expecting to get a quality product that is constantly upgraded and packaged with excellent customer service for the price of the product (for life) and nothing more, is a bit unrealistic.

Try going to a store and telling the clerk that you want product X but, you are only willing to pay what it cost 5 years ago, and see how far you get.

Wait, so it is available as a standalone application?
It was until the latest update.

I have to agree with this - being a 1Password customer. Even though most of my side jobs require my use of LastPass. I prefer 1Password and think it is a far better product - a bit more expensive, but a better product, especially if one has a Mac.

You can still get the stand alone.
