If you are 100% Apple then you are probably right. But to me it is absolutely worth it just for 2 factor and being multi-platform.

I am 100% Apple at home and only use windows at work. I tend not to login to personal stuff on my work pc as I can just use my iPhone.

If it was cheaper I’d try it, but it’s probably 3x what I consider it’s worth.

If every good app I use wants £3 per month things would get expensive very quickly.

Is there a reason to use these 3rd party password management apps instead of Keychain?

There are lots of reason, whether they are important to you is your decision. Here are some the reason I use (and pay a subscription for) 1Password:

  • Finer control on password to meet site requirements that don't fit Keychains' one size fits all.
  • On macOS can use to fill in password on Apps other than Safari
  • Share passwords cross platform (including a web based solution)
  • Security is published, I know for a fact that my passwords encrypted locally, in addition to being in the cloud.
  • Multiuser vaults (paid subscription) - I have multiple vaults that have different user access. Video site (Netflix, etc.) all my family has the password. Financial site - only myself and my wife have access. Work passwords - only myself.
That is just scratching the surface.

This is such a half assed implimentation as it will only read from a password manager and not write. Still a hassle to go into LastPass, generate a new password and then save it when android will also capture and save it too.

Have to use lastpass(or any other 3rd party manager) since Apple won’t make keychain multiplatform so it’s useless to me.
With 1Password you can create a password right in the Autofill UI.

Nope.
Thanks for trying

Is there an issue? It doesn't seem like they're forcing you to upgrade to the subscription package to get this functionality. I've always felt that they were a stand-up company. They've treated their users fairly. I didn't upgrade to the stand-alone Version 7 because I had no reason to (didn't really need any of the features), but I think I might just to say thanks… and because I feel guilty for all the free upgrades.

Unless someone gives me an excellent reason not to :)

I love 1Password and use it cross platform on my Windows devices. Something I couldn't do with Keychain

Keychain should be doing this already - or add this with the most current OS.

How many forms are you filling out everyday, outside whatever your job description demands - 2 or 300?

The free version of LastPass seems pretty comprehensive, and at $24 the premium version is cheaper than 1Password. Can any LastPass users please chime in? I have desperately wanted to share password with my desktop PC.

I wish there was a way to export iCloud Keychain to 1password

I've stopped using 1Password in favor of iCloud Keychain. I miss 1Password a lot, but iCloud Keychain is fully baked into the OS. I wish AgileBits would add the ability to sync 1Password with iCloud Keychain. The 1Password GUI is vastly superior and the additional features are great. I use it mostly for password management, however, and iCloud Keychain works just fine for that.

I love 1Password and I've been looking forward to this since iOS 12 was announced. So happy to have it finally ready. I use 1Password for everything - not just passwords, but also notes, credit cards, where bodies are buried, etc.

It depends on your needs. If you're only interested in saving passwords and making sure they sync across devices, there's no need for a third party password manager like 1Password. iCloud Keychain handles passwords just fine. 1Password has a lot of other nice features, though. The user interface is much better. You can save other bits of information like software licenses or bank account numbers in the secure 1Password file. 1Password is also available for non-Apple devices. 1Password also has some features to audit your passwords, determine which ones are really old, weak, etc.

I used to use 1Password but have abandoned it now that they've gone subscription. It's just too expensive. It's not worth $36/year forever to me. iCloud Keychain syncs my passwords without issue and that's what I need. The other 1Password features were bonuses, not essentials, in my mind.

I’ve considered switching to 1Password, but £35 per year really is just too much for something iOS can do reasonably well.

I’ve no problem with paying for apps but this is feels considerably overpriced.
You can still purchase a stand alone license - I just did last week.

This doesn't affect me personally as a day one type adopter, but I'm pretty disappointed with their choice to cut bait on iOS 11 compatibility the very first day of iOS 12's release. I understand this new feature couldn't be accommodated, but this locks out iOS 11 users from all other improvements.

LastPass, on the other hand, has decided to maintain compatibility for now

They also offer a standalone license that can be paid for once rather than by subscription. Search their website. I've been using 1Password this way (syncing with Dropbox) for years and I love it!

I guess my only question is whether or not one-time password feature will work with Apple's one-time passwords, so I don't have to always log into the account management site.

No, Apple uses a private two factor authentication that is not compatible with any current system. While it is similar to SMS, it only works on Apple devices. It is more secure than typical SMS. 1Password works with time based one-time codes.

Doesn’t seem to work on the iPad! Am I missing something?

Go back and look at post #25. I bet you bought your 1Password version directly from Agile. Now you have to find the 1Password updater in the App Store and then 1Password will magically show up under the AutoFill Passwords switch.

Agile has done a rather poor job of explaining how to do this on their website.

What do you do when you want to log in on a non-owned by you device? Just gotta type in 40 digits?
Why would you type in 40 digits?

Most passwords only require 8 characters/digits.

Password managers have the ability to make stronger (longer) passwords, but they're far from required.

Don't see any point in using this unless you have multiple personal machines, and one of them isn't a Mac/iPhone, which is a weird case. Even then, you could use Chrome if most of your passwords are for websites. I'm sure there are other niche cases to use this, but for general users, eh.

I love Keychain except for that one time it suggested a password for a reset form and then didn't save it. RIP my Minecraft account.

Keychain isn't one size fits all. Some unfortunate Apple employees have gone to tons of popular sites and manually recorded the password requirements so it usually picks one that fits.
