I have only just started using 1Password and think it's great! Everyone using dropbox... Are you using the iOS apps too? They seem pricey with bad reviews! Is this the only way to tie my iMac with my iPhone & iPad? If there is another way please let me know. :)

I'm using the iOS apps too, no problems with them (although I don't use them nearly as much as I do the Mac version). The solution's working so well for my needs that I haven't bothered to research any other alternatives.

Unfortunately the MAS version is quite dumbed down compared to the 'original' version.

A shame that Agile won't offer both. I'd personally stick with the non MAS version.

Thats good to know, thanks. Are you using them with Dropbox or just Wifi?

The MAS version is missing many features and to make 4.0 MAS only it looks like I will use 3.9 till it doesn't work anymore and then find something else.

Fiddled with getting Dropbox syncing to work for an hour until I realized that it had to be in home folder and root. Annoying as it changes my file structure. Wish Dropbox made the info easier to find.

I tried five installs, setup of dropbox sync was not possible, any help would be appreciated. The "use dropbox" button greyed out and can't be pushed.

...and yes 1password MAS works only with Lion...

solved that one:

dropbox needs to be a on the top level of your home folder and the keychain needs to be in the root folder of dropbox

[EDIT - wanted to buy on the MAS without having Lion. Seems I have to find a friend who has Lion and buy it via their computer. I don't know anyone who has Lion, but nevermind.]

I want to buy 1password but I'm confused over pricing.

1password are giving part refunds to people who have bought via the website.

So if I give up on the MAS, and buy 3.8 via the website, which is currently $40 for a single user mac only licence, (it says $27 sale on the shop page but the checkout invoice says $40), I have to jump though some hoops and get a $20 refund?

But this website purchase still will not give me any upgrades past 3.8? I'm not entirely happy with paying for an end-of-life app. Also if I buy 3.8 now, and upgrade to Lion in a couple of months, 3.8 may break at some point.

Just Dropbox. Keeps my home Mac, work Mac, iPhone, and iPad all in sync. :)

From their FAQ:

I can’t/don’t want to upgrade to Lion, what about me?
We love to take care of our customers and 1Password 3.8 will continue to be available for download from our changelog page, just like many versions are all the way back to (as of this writing) 2.12, an update to our 2.x version that was released almost two years ago.

But this is also where a huge advantage of our major extension redesign comes into play. Because we can now update our extension independently from the main 1Password app, and because Safari, Firefox, and Chrome all auto-update their extensions, we can keep 1Password 3.8 users current with browser updates right alongside 3.9 and 4.0 users. So even if you stick with the 3.8.x versions, your 1Password and browser extensions can stay compatible with browser updates for quite a while.

So far it is a non issue for me. Glad I waited for the Mac App Store version. Heck, I even upgraded Snow Leopard Server so that I can run it on there. Final Cut Pro X, Lion, Intel only, Post PC era... who am I to fight the future.

yikes, not sure what i should do.
If the App Store version isn't missing a key feature that you need (is there a list?), and you think you'll probably upgrade to v4 (when it comes out), it looks like your two choices are:

Do nothing now, and spend $39 for v4 (when it comes out, assuming $39 is their normal App Store price).
Spend $19 now, get v3.9 now, and get v4 for free when it comes out.

true.

really not sure if its worth it though based on these limitations people are referencing.

really don't get why Agile would do this.

I think the only limitation that I thought was something I'd personally use as the ability to leverage different Agile Keychains (i.e one for personal and one for business) and switch amongst them. Some of the other stuff is just stuff I don't need and when iCloud hits i'm not going to use Dropbox for syncing the Agile keychain

The MAS version is missing many features and to make 4.0 MAS only it looks like I will use 3.9 till it doesn't work anymore and then find something else.

I think you mean 3.8.x as 3.9 is MAS only.

New !P interface is confusing and hard to use

I have been using 1Password 3.8.5 on Firefox 5.0.1. I refuse to use the newer 6.0 Firefox as I had nothing but trouble when I tried to use 1Password. Now I see that the interface on Lion is much like the interface on Safari which in both cases I find confusing and clumsy. On Firefox the full 1Password bar is so easy to use. I am having a lot more trouble using the "1P" interface. I am trying to teach my sister who is not very computer savvy how to use 1P (with Lion) bought from MAS. It is difficult for me so it is nearly impossible for her. Anyone know of a step by step instruction guide beside Agilebits to help me learn to use the interface. Also is there a way to not have to enter the master password every time to open 1Password. Can it be opened and stay opened for a few hours or the day?

Preferences > Security ... uncheck the features under Auto-Lock as needed.

Can't see why I'd pay out again for 1Password 3. Even if you get v4 for free through the MAS. What new will it provide, it stores my passwords and lets me log in with ease. It also syncs with my iOS device so I can't see any reason to upgrade in the future until support is dropped.

Now that the 50%-off sale is over, it's pointless (IMO) to now buy the MAS version if you already own iPassword 3
