Folks, I would like to apologize... I reinstalled the X1900 and everything was fine so I attempted to reinstall the X4870. It took a bit of tweaking but it is up and appears stable. This card is much better than the x1900 and I am very impressed. So it does in fact support dual monitors in a MP1.1, and very nicely if I do say so. It is a bit loud, so I am off to find a replacement cooler.

Some questions...

Ok, so I've read through SO MANY threads on this issue, and I can't figure this stuff out.

Frankly, I don't mind flashing the ROM, but I've heard issues of mouse cursors jumping around the screen and incompatibility with monitors, but I don't know if this is common or WHICH monitors have this issue.

I could afford Apple's card, but I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to. And the cheaper cards you can flash have more RAM, but I also read conflicting posts that the more RAM doesn't matter because the first gen Mac Pros don't have the bandwidth to support it anyway.

Can I get some definitive answers please? I have two 24" Dell monitors (dual monitor setup) on a first gen Mac Pro with a X1900 card in there already. I have 6GB of RAM on 2.66 processors.

If I buy a NON APPLE ATI 4870, will I have issue with my monitors? Will the extra vid RAM be useful? I also game in Windows, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Is the ATI 4870 the best card I can purchase for a first gen Mac Pro? If not, which is, and can you give me a link on how to make it work?

THANK YOU :D
