I am considering it, but only because my current touch has a ton of scratches on the screen and because the 8GB is not enough memory for myself. And the fact that they updated the device is only really a bonus that will come with it. As of right now I will wait for more cases to be released for it, as there are barely any available for it. But I will probably get myself a 16GB in November or December, along with a screen protector and a decent case.

I bought one because I wanted the Microphone, and the added features of volume control and speaker.

Didn't think I would like the speaker as much as I do, and I am highly anticipating a version of Skype (crosses fingers) to be ported to the Touch.

I have a 16gb 1G. I'd like to see someone compare the screens of the 1G and 2G. I understand the Yellow tinge is there from the Iphone 3G. It replaces the bluish tinge of the 1G. How does that effect the image?
Are colors any more vibrant on the new model, and how does black contrast level compare is it about the same?

I don't have any pictures to show you, but I took my 1st gen and compared it to the 2g's at the apple store, and they did look yellowish (or, mine looked blueish, whatever). The speaker is next almost worthless. At full volume, I could hear songs reasonably well, but I couldn't hear squat on videos, even after I had the apple store turn off their musak!

I ordered a little dock connecting mini-speaker that's roughly the width of my touch off of ebay. It looks promising, and would be an improvement over the 2G internal speaker.

Normally, I'm apples bitch, but the feature set isn't enough to excite even a gadget whore like me.

First off, True Apple stores don't play Muzak (at least the stores I visited) ;)

I am amazed you expected anything from the speaker in the Apple store (unless your Apple store is a ghost town with no activity). FWIW the speaker is a bit quieter than the stereo speakers on the iPhones I tested. Any Store environment is not the type of place the speaker is intended to be used.

In a room at home, an office, or any similar environment (even my car at highway speeds), the speaker provides decent volume to hear podcasts, games or music (though I use headphones for that). Remember it is intended for "casual listening".

If you do plan on upgrading and have any "third party" chargers (including andthing that charges them ie: docks, car adapters, ect..), plan on buying official Apple ones, because they won't work with the Gen2 ones.

Just something to keep in mind... and swear about!

If anything, you should jump on the old models while they're still available at a cheaper price.

This is what I did. I bought a near brand new 16gb touch 1G model for $180 off of ebay. Came with all original packaging and a leather case for it. Back was not scratched at all.

$120 off retail price certainly doesn't justify the new 2G features. I was actually going to buy a new one after last week, but decided to check ebay first. Glad I did.

Musak, selected songs, whatever. I expected to at least hear the video that was playing with the music system off at the store without holding it up directly to my ear.
I'm buying an ultraslim dock connected speaker off of ebay, and expect it in 1-2 weeks. If it works, I think I'll pass on the 2g's.

Beside the Yellow tint How's the Colors compared to 1G and More importantly is the Black level any better, on the 1G there are no blacks only Greys

I have a non apple charger that charges the ipod through the sync cable, will the ipod touch charge?

I'm keeping my first generation 32 GB Touch. I'm really happy with it, and, so far, it has worked flawlessly. My daughter got one of the new 32 GB ones, and she loves it, but, IMHO, there aren't enough changes to tempt me.

I am trading up. I traded my 16 gig 1st gen iPod Touch in at Best Buy for $242. When I get the gift card next week, I'll be getting the new 16 gig iPod Touch.
