    Hi

is the time capsule for the sheer purpose of backing up only or can it be used as an external harddisk? because what i would do is store most of my stuff on the time capsule (1tb).. all my dvdrips, tv shows stored on it which would amount to about to a terabyte and then purchase another one terabyte capsule and have them entirely synchronized, that is, if it is possible to use them as a harddisk other than for backing up, so i would in theory have an identical clone of my 1tb time capsule at all times so if something was to go wrong eg a failure (god forbid), I could simply substitute one for another and not be affected.

Probably can be used as an external drive, but it would be much too expensive for that. For what you want to do, get one Time Capsule, and buy any external 1 TB drive with USB port and plug it into the Time Capsule.

Time Capsule is also an AirPort router. Do you need a second router?

As suggested above, use Time Capsule with Time Machine for backups. Use a secondary external HD to back up the contents of the TC drive.
