2 and a bit weeks to go until the hardware arrives gives them some time to get them loaded and shipped. Plus its a Tuesday. I'm dreaming aren't I?

You are dreaming. 2.0 won't come out more than a week before the 3g phone. I think apple wants everything to come out at once. Have one huge amazing week.

This may kinda be a noob question. But bear with me.

The 3G iPhone has the 2.0 software out of the box right? Or will we have to do a quick update?

We're assuming it will be 2.0 OTB. Not positive though. It will have to be 2.0 to work though.

O.K., bear with me while I do some online reasoning.

1. In order for the iPhones to be in the stores on July 11, the manufacturers had to start producing them weeks, or maybe even months ago.
2. That means that many are sitting in warehouses somewhere worldwide.
3. The betas of 2.0 have still been coming up until recently. They are still in Beta right now, as far as I can tell.
4. Unless Mobile.Me can also push Software, and Firmware...... and only if you have an account with them, as most people don't.....
5. I'd say that everyone will have to upgrade the software/firmware through iTunes, or have it done while waiting in the store where you purchase it.
6. This should really tie up the Servers!!!! In addition to waiting inline to get all of your questions answered about an account, upgrade eligibility, and other things.

Didn't Steve say in his keynote (I'm too lazy too try and find it now) that the new 3G iPhone will have Exchange support and App Store capability out of the box? That would imply 2.0 is already on the phones, yes?

It will most likely be released on July 11th, the same time as iPhone 3G, Mobile Me, and the App Store. They will probably release the 2.0 software during the day of the 11th, with the phone being released at 6:00pm on the 11th.

yes i believe you are right.

Wow, what foresight Apple has if it knew on WWDC day what the results of a couple of Beta's after that would produce.

Maybe, just maybe, do you suppose it will have an 'Early' version of 2.0 that will work but need to be upgraded to provide the latest version?

But then again, maybe that's what sets Apple apart from Microsoft. Steve's insight into the future.

How odd would that be if it actually was released on my bday July 8th

Don't steal my thunder partner. It is coming out on my b-day, the 11th~ :D

Not that I am looking forward to getting any older... but this is one of the few birthdays I am looking forward too!

Didn't people get to play with the 3G at WWDC?
It had some form of 2.0 on it then, I'd guess we'd get that version, whether that be the final or a beta. Just my opinion.

I think it was Peter Oppenheimer who said that it would be late June. I haven't heard anything to the contrary that would lead me to believe it won't be late June for 2.0 software. My guess will be soon. Possibly late this week or early next week.

As a note, Apple doesn't usually release software on Tuesdays. Heck, they usually only upgrade hardware on Tuesdays. It is not a firm day.

2.0 could very well be final, loading on 3G iPhones as we speak. Doesn't mean that they won't hold the release till later.

Friday the 27th or Monday the 30th. One can hope right?

On the other hand, they may very well make July 11th "the big bang". 2.0 update, App store, and 3G iPhone day. I am all tingly thinking about it.

Of course it's going to have 2.0 for the 3G right out of the box; why/how would they have 114 out of the box for 3G? Everyone would be unlocking and JB the 3G to death, and we know that's not gonna' happen...

Yeah, the one week wait for 2.0 to be jailbroken and unlocked will be a killer. In the weeks after the launch, there will be many creative ways of getting around the contract.

AppStore is part of 2.0...then again, it's big enough to separate =).

Hmm, I wonder if MobileMe would come out on that very same day too. :)

I have an iPod Touch and I am still disappointed that you have to pay $10 for the iPod Touch version. Why can't they release it for free for iPod Touch owners too?

Stupid laws that prevent Apple from giving it for free.

But $10 is a steal! Everyone pretty much guessed the price to be from $15 to my $25.

Turns out, it's $9.95!

App store is a part of 2.0, although the store could easily say "Comming Soon" when you click on it.

Yes, I almost forgot about MobileMe.

More that I think about it, is it more likely to have them all hit at once? Boom Style? Or does it make more sense to space it out a few weeks to have some time to recover if a catastrophe happens? Hmmm...
