I have to admit, at first, I didn't believe that the changes in 3G reception people were upset about were related to the update, I now know they are correct. Until I updated, I always got 3-5 bars at home, since the update, 1-3 bars, more often 1-2, where 4 was the norm prior to updating, clearly there has been some sort of change. Also, my 3G was pretty good prior to the update in that not once, and I mean not a single time, did I lose enough signal to have the phone switch to Edge, since updating, it has done it several times in just the first 24 hours. These are facts, I sure hope Apple figures out what happened and gets it working again, good 3G reception and speed was 90% of why I upgraded and was happy with the phone despite its quirks, without the good 3G, I'd just as soon have my old iphone. Not happy.

I don't know about "less bars" but i definately get "No Service" A LOT more...and im in the middle of a major metropolitan area.

Absolutely worse reception after the 2.0.1 for me.
Before I had great reception in my basement apartment whether using 3G or Edge. I notice the much worse reception all over Portland metro area. I am assuming this is also the reason marked overall worsening of web browsing and gps location services too. This really bites.

Same here... there is absolutely NO reason why I should be forced into EDGE in a major city... ridiculous

SUPPOSEDLY the modem change was made so that the Iphone would go down to EDGE more often for those with no 3G reception and to improve battery life... but I think Apple has seriously ticked off a lot of people. What good is a device that you can't use for the internet 3G calls, etc. even if it has battery life left?

FYI: the modem on 2.0.0 is 1.45.00 and on 2.0.1 1.48.02
This seems to be the HUGE problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this by going back to the old modem??
