On Friday...

Edit: Sorry about the misleading title, I misread it and thought it was available today - I jumped the gun.

Jason Chen:

iPhone owners get a 2.1 software update that “fixes lots of bugs.” Significantly improved battery life, fewer call drops, crashing problems, increased speed for iTunes backups and various other fixes.

Available free on Friday

What makes that so different from 2.0.3??? I see nothing new for 2.1 except maybe the Nike thing.

does the iphone even get the nike + thing though? it wasnt mentioned for the iphone owners. itouch owners get it.

It's only a fix? No new features? :(

My twitter text said that the Nike+ was a receiver. If true, that's hardware, and the iPhone couldn't get that until a new model release.

omg. there is NO ITOUCH. And Touch owners get it, in the NEW Touch.

p.s. weak thread title. change it yo.

Doubtful that it is currently included in the iPhone hardware...maybe newly purchased phones???

Given my recurring problems with crashing apps, I think Friday is too long for Apple to make us wait.

if they really fixed the bugs, then they've done exactly the right thing! Looked to stabilise the system before introducing any other features.

That'll be Friday! 3 days to go!

P.S.: The event was very very underwhelming! <sigh> Seems Munster is getting it right these days!

Im pretty disappointed.
The new nano is cool and all, but i expected a little more depth in the whole 2.1 update considering how big of a flop 2.0 was.
Im sure theres lots of people wishing they still had 1.1.4.
Seemed like they just stuffed it in there to shut us the hell up.
:apple: got the last bite this time.

Steve skimmed over the 2.1 details so quickly I think everyone is going to start exaggerating over what we are gonna get. Quite simply put this is another no frills update. It will fix SOME issues, and nothing else. Do not expect your iPhone to suddenly grow wings and fly after this update.

"The funnest iPod ever." Three models: 8GB - $229. 16GB model - $299. 32GB model - $399. Available starting today."

So 2.1 is available today if you buy a new Touch but we have to wait till Friday as existing customers?

Maybe I didn't understand that correctly?

well the 2.1 announcement came and went with nothing to compel me to not jailbreak my phone. how sad... how come the touch gets the nike thing and not the iphone?

oh, and one more thing.... or, maybe not. i must say, very disappointing. but thats what happens when you expect something. or when you now that the product you have and love can do so much more than the company is allowing it to do.

freaking disappointing... no new features no push....
thats right they made a blunder with firmware 2.x and now they are cleaning up the mess.... They will have to wipe the s**t for so long they can bring something new....

Man...that takes me back to the scene in Fletch when he's on the airplane, trying to get his tape recorder working....turns it on to the sounds of sex....then a quick pause....

"What that's it??"
