I'm annoyed myself with the lack of information on 2.1..

However, this event was mainly to do with music and iTunes and the new iPods.. Not the iPhone!

I know he mentioned a few cool apps coming to the iPhone, but that's beside the point.

We are still waiting for the "suprise" in the new Firmware for the iPhone. Just listen to all the BETA testers to find out what is in the new 2.1 software. They will release a changes section to the Firmware upgrade.

"The funnest iPod ever." Three models: 8GB - $229. 16GB model - $299. 32GB model - $399. Available starting today."

So 2.1 is available today if you buy a new Touch but we have to wait till Friday as existing customers?

Maybe I didn't understand that correctly?
Didn't think of that....wtf?

I'm afraid you understood it the same way I did. I have no idea why I need to endure three more days of crashing apps when the fix is (hopefully) at hand.

the thing is, half of what we were expecting (push and better GPS) was touted by apple as being a key feature for the iphone. Now, they make a kkeynote and just skim over those things and not atleast tell us the NEW features that we should have been expecting and istead just say it fixes bugs.. Ehh.. rather annoying if oyu ask me.

All i REALLY wanted out of this whole thing was push, and MAYBE video, but thats wishfull thinking.

Jason Chen:

iPhone owners get a 2.1 software update that “fixes lots of bugs.” Significantly improved battery life, fewer call drops, crashing problems, increased speed for iTunes backups and various other fixes.

Available free on Friday

Does it fix the economy too? world peace?

My guess....2.1 will be an improvement, but not enough to be a real 2.1. More like a bulky 2.0.3. Battery life improved 5-10%, maybe 25% less crashing, and I think it won't do much of anything for the network issues. Definitely gonna wait till a jailbreak is out for it...

And I think you guys might be looking at this wrong. Today was an iPod event....iPhone != iPod. From that perspective it was pretty darn good (except for ditching the 160GB Classic!!!).....the iPhone stuff was mentioned as an afterthought because it didn't really even belong there.

if they really fixed the bugs, then they've done exactly the right thing! Looked to stabilise the system before introducing any other features.

Totally agree. Far better than a shedload of new features that bring their own problems while past issues go ignored.

Lol...funny how people are disappointed with the keynote. You must all be new here.

Well that was retarded. This is truly 2.0.3 rather than 2.1. Bug fixes are important, but what about the features like Push, MMS, Cut and Paste?

I doubt we'll hear anything major regarding the iphone for a while. Their roadmap looks like it's all about nanos and ipods with macbooks and snow leopard being next.

Methinks 2.1 is not ready for prime time. Otherwise, why announce today (in a very abbreviated way) what's going to be released Friday? Sounds like a last minute pull.

This was by far Apple's most disappointing media event ever!
OK maybe not the most but none the less!

This whole keynote was such a disappointment (not just for the 2.1 reason). It was just very weak...New nano's - big deal. New iTouch - nice, but still, nothing jaw dropping.

Let me get this strait, fixing the product so I can use it for the purposes I bought it for and adding something new is to much to expect?
