That's the suggested PPI the display would have... if they were to make an 12,9 inch. However I still have my doubts and I think they will just increase the PPI of the original iPad Air 2.

PPI doesn't change radically in order to facilitate integer scaling of apps and manufacturing yields of displays. If/when Apple starts requesting uncommon display resolutions/densities, it ends up costing more until the product sells well.

The iPhone 6 Plus solution of hardware scaling is less than ideal, you are using power to do that. The number of companies that were already building 5.5" 1080p displays such that Apple could ask for a "better" one, rather than something completely knew is why it's less feasible with the iPad Pro.

Is it me or 265PPI is kinda small for a larger iPad?

Mine iPad Air has same number of PPI.
A bigger screen lowers the required PPI, not the opposite, because bigger screens tend to be used further away from the eyes.

Am I the only one hoping for bluetooth mouse support? We have employees that use a Laptop and an iPad, but we also have VMWare Horizon in place. Due to proprietary software, they need an iPad. If this thing had a bluetooth mouse, I could get rid of 20+ aging laptops and have them use a VDI with it. They complain about needing a mouse to fully convert.

Truly doubt that, since that would require the UI to scale with a factor 1.79 in order to keep everything the same size. That's a really unhandy scaler.

Let's just be clear that back then he meant that you won't need a stylus in order to actually use the iPhone, you use your finger... Also a stylus will make a lot of sense for designer and artists, it's an iPad "Pro" for god's sake :D

I think you have a good point here!

Didn't somebody great once say that we would never see a stylus?
Indeed, this comes in a rather surprising move.

However, with a tablet this big, I won't be able to hold my hands in the air for hours when using it. You need somewhere to relax them on, and relaxing them on the multi-touch screen doesn't seem like a very good idea at all. I believe there will be a "stylus-only mode" which you can toggle and relax your hand on the screen like you would when writing on a sheet of paper.

Yes, but more and more people are starting to realize how useful a stylus can be especially in illustration/drawing situations. I myself use the Surface 3 with a stylus in these situations and it seems very practical.

The stylus is not a requirement, but it's now a must have accessory if you want to take full advantage of a tablet. Steve Jobs was right in introducing a 'stylus-free' tablet with the iPad, and it worked...until more and more apps started to appear and the need for a stylus became more apparent.
Fail. A sytlus free tablet means less functionality. That’s a plus point is it?

For the smaller devices. Styluses have been a part of Macs since even the 64K models. It would make sense to have a stylus for the larger version. There are 3rd party styluses for the other models. I wish though it had USB-C.

But it says at "265 PPI." To keep the PPI the same, the screen would have to get larger. The current display is 9.7" 2048x1536 at 264 PPI.

I'm scared of any iPad with a higher resolution (no matter the size) because of getting burned so bad on the iPad 3. :(
Yeah, I got burned (literally) so bad on the iPad 3 also. That thing ran so hot it just fried. Luckily I had already bought a newer iPad so I just gave the 3 away, so I didn't really lose anything and neither did the person I gave it to but still. Apple just swept that one under the rug.

It is more pixels than the 15" retina MBP (and the 13" rMBP) have, those two have PPIs of 220 and 227 respectively (compared to the 264 ppi of this rumoured iPad). 'Normally', the ppi go down as the screen size is increased, thus keeping the ppi as the display size is increased is not a bad thing. Of course, they might jump from 2x to 3x as they (almost) did with the 6s.

He was actually referencing the iPad with that statement.

"A: (Steve Jobs) It's like we said on the iPad, if you see a stylus, they blew it. In multitasking, if you see a task manager... they blew it. Users shouldn't ever have to think about it."

I do want to see them release a larger iPad "pro" but I'd only consider it if it ran a version of OSX rather than just iOS. I already use my iPad the majority of the time at home and this would allow me to do a bit more with it if it ran a proper OS or at least an OSX/iOS hybrid of some sort.

If 2732x2048 is true, it would be a little disappointing for me. After introduction of @3x in iPhone 6+. I was hopping the iPad Pro would get it next. Now it seems more of a Pro 2 or 3 feature.
@3x = 4098x3072

I hope a least, Apple fixes the 6S+ display and make it native 2208x1242.

I've been wondering if/when Apple would move the larger iPhone to a native resolution display (vs. the internal @3x conversion to the physical 1080 display). I agree, that whole implementation bugs me, and at this point, there doesn't seem to be a compelling rationale - component availability, power consumption, etc. - to continue that design[?]

Times change. It doesn't mean it was wrong when it was said. In addition, I believe he actually said "You don't need a stylus" not that there would never be one.

OMG, you mean use cases change? The market moves forward? Holy smokes! :D

The stylus sounds promising but it will be a pointless device if it can't run OS X, completely pointless.
