Well, the 20" was a sad joke, and had been using the 5 year old panel. The 23" and 30" got updated, and the last price drop brought them below the cost of the higher prices offerings from Nec and LaCiE whose panels are what many in the color critical market call the standard. Eizo monitors are even more so.

Does the 23" still come coated with a thick crust of speckly anti-glare crud so it's like looking through ground glass? The last batch of 'em I installed last year did  :(

Once Apple puts a glass front on the 30" LED and says it goes perfectly with the Mac Pro and nothing else is the day I will be buying NECs.

You might, but it won't have an NEC-manufactured panel in it anymore :(

I don't even care that they want to use mini display port, I just care that Apple HAD to cater their new monitors around the Macbooks. I will wait and see if Apple really does fubar their monitor lineup, but as Tallest says, I have a feeling Apple will be custom fabbing some expensive proprietary GFX cards with MDP ONLY.

This worries me. The graphics card situation on the Mac Pro is bad enough without the threat of Apple kicking us all while we're down.

Very true. I think Apple engineers get off on making some people's lives a living hell with the complete LACK of backward compatibility. The idiots at the retail stores even suggest purchasing MORE hardware to counter Apple's decisions.

Exactly, how environmentally friendly is that Steve?

Nothing is forcing you to buy the displays. I'm using the 20in acd on my new macbook with no issues at all.

There are hundreds of other choices out there if you don't like what apple provide.

The ones i have been using lately haven't. I have heard complete horror stories from the older panels, the pinking tinting and random GFX card shut downs and such, but the 30"s 20"s and 23"s I have been using have been flawless. Nothing that would keep me from grabbing a higher priced and higher spec'd NEC or whatever, but not bad.

Right, like we get a WORLD of GFX options now. Most Apple cards are mediocre and expensive. The higher end ones are top notch workstation class cards at $1999. WTHell Apple!

Now, even though Nvidia will most likely put new cards on the market ever 4 months, we won't get them for two years since Apple has to have them custom made with their drivers and MDP.

Right again. Not to turn the thread into a rant-fest, but Apple is really saying that you should just throw away/giveaway/sell your 1 year old gear and grab a new machine/LED display/adaptors/software every year.

I've got to laugh at myself really :D
I think we should have a separate hidden forum/thread for all us "Pro" users to rant and bitch and whine about Apple's latest Insanely Stupid™ decisions
I have a mental list of the usual suspects on MR who would contribute ;)

Those that compete with the ACDs never did anyway, they are all LG.

Waiting for the new 30 inch LED Cinema

I hope the new 30 inch LED will be out soon, i've been waiting for a long time for it and I want to see if Apple will keep it at the same price as the current 30 inch? and I hope it's going to look like the current LED 24-inch, imagine dual LED 30 inch next to your Mac Pro that will be sick as hell.
